Here is a smaller but thicker one from Pete & Shorty's Tavern in Clearwater FL.  It's hard to miss since it is on the main drag and there is a billboard advertising them and their BPT.  (And it is close to the billboard advertising the original Hooters)

Most recent BPT was a week ago at M. Mogger's Restaurant in Terre Haute, IN. It's a really cool place in a century old brewery building. As you can see it's a large sandwich (both bun parts are underneath). And it was quite good, well seasoned, tender, and juicy. But the breading kept falling off in poker chip sized pieces. That was its only drawback.

That brings up a question: in Indiana, where does the southeastern fried chicken country end and the pork tenderloin country start?

Geographically Gnaw Bone would not be far off base...but it lost it's unique gas station pork-chop sandwich creation some time ago when success moved them to Bloomington and a new era of food service. Davydd has been tracking a number of BPT spots in and around Indy that may reach out towards the German-Pepper Chicken range to the southeast.
I would mark your map with a jagged line from Richmond on the East side and run it just south of Indy to Terre Haute on the west. (I-70). I wish I could brag on more places in So Indiana (my home) but I haven't come across them yet.  There are individual exceptions.. but as a 'trend' when you come south, start looking for Snapper Soup, Burgoo, and Mutton BBQ.

I have had two very good BPTs on the bank of the Ohio River. One in Madison at the Madison Lighthouse, and the other at the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth. And one is on the menu at the Fireside Bar and Grill in Sellersburg, just a few miles north of Louisville. I'll be trying it this week. In some areas of the state they may be elusive but certainly not impossible to find.

They are throughout Indiana. They ratio of restaurants serving them probably dies off starting about south of Brown County. But once you cross the Ohio River they practically disappear. Oddly, the same goes when you cross the Ohio state line and the Michigan state line. Outstate Illinois is loaded with tenderloins but greater Chicago not so much. Of course the tenderloin belt continues throughout Iowa and there is gradual bleed out in Minnesota, Kansas and Nebraska. Missouri has a good share but it seems inconsistent ratio wise throughout the state. The greatest concentration has to be around Indianapolis (sorry Iowa.) It is almost a requirement to stay in business to serve them. One of my latest, the Barbecue and Bourbon in Speedway is almost solely BBQ joint but they also serve the deep-fried BPT and it is a good one.

Appropriately with a glass of Kentucky Bourbon Ale.

Gnaw Bone Feed & Fuel was back in business at the same location named Gnaw Mart when I last passed through in early 2012.  There is a review of it on Yelp that was posted yesterday (5/31/2015).  On the same trip I passed through a tiny town in Indiana that seemed to consist of only a Chinese restaurant, and it had a sign advertising that they had pork tenderloin sandwiches.

Gnaw Bone's BPT is not the original. The founder opened a food truck where he sells his original at fairs and festivals around south central Indiana. Here at the Monrovia Festival. September 2014.

Greg,
Interesting. It's the same pig so I assume they are still somehow related.
ps, Are those your goats on the hill behind the self storage facility in Ellettsville?

plb, I live about 30 miles north of Ellettsville so I don't think they're mine. And I don't know how the two Gnaw Bones are related, but I will find out. Your mention of a Chinese restaurant w/ a BPT got me thinking about an Indonesian restaurant in Greensburg, IN, that has one as well. I'm looking forward to trying their version.

The original Gnaw Bone tenderloin was broasted. I assume the food truck would have the broaster? The Gnaw Bone tenderloin was never a large tenderloin. I had it. It was nothing special. Its fame came because the east coast network news shows picked up on it during a political campaign. Being in a gas station helped with the mystique to make news.

So, last month I drove by the Gnaw Mart, went into Nashville, and had this one at the Out of the Ordinary restaurant in Nashville, Indiana.

SEI does have BPT but they are few and far between.  The geographical markers for the SEI Fried Chicken would closely be Ohio River in the South, I-74 to the West, I-70 to the North, and the OH line to the East (although there are some decent chicken places in Cincy too)

County wise we are talking:  Dearborn, Ripley, Rush, Decatur, Franklin, Fayette, Union, Henry, Wayne & Shelby

Enough about chicken back to BPTs

Thanks for the heads up about chicken. Must be something to cluck about. Any way to recognize a joint serving this ornithological delight? My comb's getting red just thinking about it.

Bloomberg Politics reporter, best selling co-author of Game Change and other stuff, Mark Halperin has hosted a cable talk show live from Smitty's in Des Moines earlier this year, recently changed his twitter profile to a bpt from smitty's.
