Minor quirk I noticed today: I did a search for restaurants near Pittsburgh, PA, and the result list included Crabby Oddwaters in Sunset Beach, NC. The list claimed that Crabby Oddwaters is 46 miles from Pittsburgh, but I am skeptical.

Ralph, I think you'll find that NC is a lot closer to Pittsburgh than you think. You probably didn't account for plate tectonics. Actually, we had the wrong street address for Crabby Oddwaters. You'd think that if you have the correct town and state, but a street that doesn't exist, the mapping algorithm would at least put the restaurant somewhere in that town and state. But, no, it apparently looks for the nearest spot that has a street by that name - in this case, West Virginia. It's been corrected (the location of Crabby Oddwaters, not the algorithm).

mar52, because you don't speak French, the Quebecois don't want you to learn about their culture. I had a somewhat similar experience some years ago the one time I visited Quebec City.

Could be the french thing , but actually I signed on at another computer and got the same forbidden warning. I cleared my old browsing data and cache and all works now. I have noticed that this particular forum software really gets balky when you access an updated version using a browser with some old browsing data. Clear out you old stored files and see if that helps.

I'm still getting that Forbidden message on both of my computers, using different browswers. However, it's only on that topic.

I know how to use BB code. What I want is for the chain link shortcuts in the coding above the message box to be active.

Obnoxious Scripts
Sat, 10/2/10 11:08 AM
( permalink)
During the last week or so, I've been getting a nasty expanding ad from a bank called Regions. Once the page loads, the banner expands about 1/3 screen and requires closing every time. If you should mouse over it, same thing happens. Dumping the cache solves the problem shortly and I get a server error in the banner area then we're back at square one in no time. To be fair, this isn't the only website I'm having this problem. In other websites recently, the entire page hangs up for minutes until I get a "stop running script" box. This is a relatively new problem that we're not only getting on the house computers, but also at the office. The exploding ads in most cases retract automatically, but some require closing or continuously re-open even without mousing over them. Worse yet are redirects or pages that slide in from the side and require closing. Some pages even lock up completely require a ctrl/alt/delete with a"not responding" status. This has become very annoying, but it doesn't seem that many folks are complaining. I have the pop up blocker enabled and neither Maleware bytes ,Spybot, or my resident virus/maleware protection by Sunbelt detect anyting besides a few tracking cookies. I've had to go into tools/Int. Options/Security to disable scripts from running and all is normal with fast page loads at the expense of some active content like flash videos. All of our machines are running up-to-date XP and seem to have the same problems. Anyone else having this problem not only here but elsewhere recently?

When replying to a thread, it would be nice to be able to enlarge the window(open full version) to a full page.

I am unable to respond to the logbook postings. I don't get the type in feature on a regular basis. This only happens on my home computer.

joerogo When replying to a thread, it would be nice to be able to enlarge the window(open full version) to a full page. It is doable, except, most times you get a blank page. Just return to the original and click again. It comes up on the second or third try. It's the same thing with hitting "Reply to Message". Shouldn't need to be that way but that's the way it's currently working.

The last couple of times I've tried to use the "Reply to Message" & then "Quote the Message", the message appears at the top of the reply box, but when I type & reply & submit, my message appears in the the thread, but not the message I wanted quoted. IE 7

I just uploaded a patch for the "Quote the message" issue. Clear your browser cache (ctrl + f5) and let me know if it works.

When I log in I can no longer see pictures (and I think links as well). I lloked at the 'Right of Spring Lutefisk' thread, BuffetBusters 'Nephews to Primanti's' thread, My trip report to Philly thread, and the Firearms thread. I can see the pics when not logged in, but cannot when I am logged in.

Alos, I can only reply using 'Quick Reply' on the bottom. The 'Reply to message' link does not work for me. Rebooted my computer and all is well. Cue Emily Latella

Why doesn't your site support Firefox browser? I've notived in the last few months that some things doen't work well with Firefox. For example, many times when I try to reply to a post I get everything but the actualy area to type my reply in. Very odd. If you could tell me why I would aporeciate it. It does look like your site is designed for IE but Firefox should work as well. Thanks, Paul

In fact, I believe Stephen designs it using Firefox! Have you updated your browser lately? If not, you might give that a try and see if that helps.

This is what I have been getting when I try to reply or even create a new post sometimes. This one of from just now when I tried to click on the Reply to message box in the upper right hand corner of your post. Notice there is no place for me to type my message. I also just reinstalled Firefox. Strange. I had to make this post via quick reply.
