UncleVic & Davydd-
Thanks for taking the time and effort to show how to do this. This question comes up all the time. I just posted a photo to a thread for the first time today through photobucket.com and it was surprisingly easy. Trust me, if I can do it, anybody can!

Thanks, 6+ years later.

That was the only advice I needed.

It wasn't easy but I finally goofed around and posted a picture.  Now I'll probably never be able to do it again!

I post on Facebook all the time with pics and I occasionally do it on Roadfood but it is much more laborious but it still can be done. This is a pic that was taken by Roz in Maine in October.  We each bought 3 1 1/2 pound lobsters for $20.00 plus salad bar.  Double outstanding.

Wow... Some great pics guys!
If anyone is having trouble posting pics to the Roadfood forums, check the help section of the website you are using to host your images.  I use Flickr to host my photos, and they provide a very clear step-by-step explanation as to how to insert an image into a message board thread.  The learning process took 5 minutes at the most.  Good luck!

While I'm able to post photos from my Flickr account to the Roadfoood message board using my iMac, I can't seem to do it using my ipad. Although I have a recollection that maybe I did do it once or twice, I can't for the life of me figure out how. On my computer, when I do a reply to message, I get a whole host of tools appear, including a "insert image" button. In the ipad nothing seems to come up.

Any suggestions?

You read my mind, David — when the original post to this thread was written, there was no iPad. Now I'd be willing to bet a lot of us travel with tablets of some type (I'm writing this on an iPad Mini). I've taken really good food pics with it, and can upload them to Photobucket using their app, but when I visit Roadfood forums to post my pics, the tools shown in this tutorial aren't there.

I'm planning a trip from Florida to the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee this summer (with side trips to Door County and New Glarus), and want to do a trip report, but I don't want to lug my old bulky monster of a Windows laptop along, transfer pics over, write the report on the laptop and upload everything from there.

I'm really hoping for an iPad-friendly work-around for posting pics on the forum. And dare I even hope for a Roadfood iPad (and Android) app by then?

You can copy the IMG links to your photos out of Photobucket from Safari or the Photobucket app  from an iPhone or iPad and paste it here. It is really just simple copy and paste.

It seems that when I copy a photo from my camera roll on my iPad and try to paste it into a message the add image button doesn't show up and there is no way to paste it in. I've tried tapping in the spot in order to get it to paste, but I can't get it to work.

You can't copy from your camera roll. You have to use an intermediary web site like Photobucket to link photos in a message thread on Roadfood. You also can't upload directly to Photobucket from an iPhone from your Camera Roll. You need the Photobucket app to do that. You can use Flickr and post to it from your Camera Roll. Once you have a photo in Photobucket or Flickr it is just a matter of copy from them and pasting into your message with the BBCode IMG tags.

Okay, here goes an iPad test

Wow! Easy! Uploaded the pic to the Photobucket iPad app, tapped on pic to open it, tapped the "Link" icon, tapped the "Image Tag" code to copy it, pasted code into the message (works in Quick Reply), Bingo!

The Photobucket iPad app won't let you resize your pics. To do that, you have to log in to your account on the web site.

Once it's re-sized, you can go back and post it from the app any time. This is set to 750 pixels wide.

I set my upload default in Photobucket to a maximum of 640 x 480. So no matter where I upload from or the size of the photo it will default to that size. I only use Photobucket for linking photos to message boards and would not want a photo any larger. I don't use Photobucket for archive storage.

I have my pictures on Flickr, but I don't know how to use the BBCodes and IMG tags. When I do it from my computer the add image button comes up and does all that for me automatically.

RE: Posting Pictures - A How To 2014/04/01 16:16:35 (permalink)
Flickr probably isn't going to help you as I see no way you can get a url address to link that ends in .jpg. I find it confusing. That's also why I don't use it.

When you are on your computer and you click on the Img url tag here in composing a message it means you have to have an image url location on the internet that begins with http and ends with .jpg like this:

http://i91.photobucket.co...andwiches/IMG_4181.jpg

Then you use the IMG BBCode tags of [IMG]at beginning and end of the image url location like the above example[/IMG] and you get this:

In Photobucket you can get your image with the tags in place so all you have to do is paste here. If you use the little insert/edit image icon and paste you url address there, then Roadfood will automatically add the tags.

I will repeat. You cannot add an image directly from your computer. You have to first upload it to a hosting website that will give you the url address I am talking about. If there is a legitimate image anywhere on the Internet with a .jpg suffix where you can Control-Click (Mac OS) or Right Button-Click (Windows) you can get its root image location.

Example: I went to Google Images and searched Blackstone Oven. I opened one the images and control-clicked to get "copy image location". I clicked on "copy image location". Then I clicked on the insert image icon here and pasted it in. This is the result.

Actually, what I have done to add the photos from my computer, using Flickr, is open the picture, resize it to medium, and then drag it over from my computer.

I haven't actually used the insert image button, now that I think of it. I couldn't get it to work with that. When I click on the insert image icon I get the box to insert the image URL and then click insert, and all I get is this icon, which when I preview it, nothing shows up. I will post this message now and see what actually happens.

Well, that just put in a link.

OK, I just tried a different option with Photobucket and it worked! Thanks for all the hints.
