Potato Salad ?? Fri, 08/7/09 11:02 PM (permalink)
I'm not sure if this will get moved or deleted and if it's something that should not be posted here I understand. But when it was sent to me I read the subject line and thought oh wow something about Potato Salad, and I may learn something.

It's from I suspect the mid 40s and if I could find 3 girls that could do this today I'd make a TV commercial about all of my sides. LOL

Pretty amazing, and I'd assume it really at the time did not have anything to do with a food product or a restaurant. Has anyone here done any advertising that was as strange and yet fascinating as this?

Woops here is the link http://www.youtube.com/wa...y8&feature=related

    Dr
I am trying to find someone to do a parody of this commercial for radio.
One has tried but I didn't like it. Still searching without spending major bucks.
I laugh every time I see it.
It never aired in our region. I especially love it when he slaps that "thang".

from wikipedia: The Ross Sisters - Aggie, Maggie, and Elmira, who, for some reason, did not use their real-life names of Vicki (Veda Victoria Ross), Dixie (Dixie Jewel Ross), and Betsy (Betsy Ann Ross), performed as a 3-part harmony trio wherein they also danced and did acrobatics. Their sole remaining known film clip shows them performing "Solid Potato Salad" from the 1944 MGM musical "Broadway Rhythm," which features the sisters' amazing contortionism. This clip also appears in the compilation "That's Entertainment! III" (1994).

Jack, I don't know about some of those dance moves, but if you'd like, you and I could do some two part harmonies on the song when I pass through on my way to the American Royal at the end of September.  I'm sure we could entertain your customers for an hour or two.

Buddy Roadhouse, Oh yes my customers would think what’s that crazy BBQ guy doing now? LOL
And Easydoesit, that Hardee's spot didn’t run here either, but it is very good. And as to the skimpy outfits,  I don’t think so. LMAO. I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, let alone do what those girls were doing.

Buddy, do they still do the men dressed as dancing and singing pigs on stage at the royal? I know a lot of BBQ contest still do some variation of that.

A different topic, the first meeting of the three principals that are putting together a BBQ contest for here in Springfield, is this Sunday. Not sure the event will be a KCBS event the first year but that’s the way we are headed for the 2nd or third year, but Buddy we want you involved from the get go. I’ll post more on that later.

Gotta go to work, and today’s weather:
Hot and humid. Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 90s. Afternoon heat index readings  103.
