What the weather calls for, a nice bowl of thick warm chowder, easy to make and filling.
4 cups of peeled cubed potatoes
3 stalks celery chopped small
2 onions chopped small
1 ham steak cubed
3 cups chicken broth
1 tsp pepper, 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 stick butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk, any percentage, warmed (put in microwave 2 minutes).
Process or chop small the onion and celery. In large pot, add onion, celery, ham, chicken broth, salt, pepper, boil then simmer uncovered 15 minutes. In another small pot, melt butter, add flour, stirring, fry for a few minutes, add warm milk, cook under low heat till thickened, about 5 minutes. Add this milk mixture to simmering soup, cook additional 5 minutes, soup will thicken.
Delicious. The family loves the addition of chowder crackers on top.
