Potato-Bacon Torte

When I saw Melissa d'Arabian( winner of The Next Food Network Star) make this torte I knew it sounded like something I would like. I decided to make only a top crust instead of top and bottom to help cut down on the fat and calories. The crust has one stick of butter. Anyway, I've never been a good crust maker but this came out great. The inside is thinly sliced potatoes, crumbled bacon and salt and pepper. I poured cream, infused with fresh thyme, over the potato filling, sprinkled it with grated gruyere chese, covered it with the crust and baked it. The recipe can be found on Food Networks web site. I will be making this again!
 

 

i tend to make good crust for pies, but have never been much of a fan, i prefer the filling.

Anyway, that looks hearty, and perhaps paired with a nicely salad, and  dry mildly bright white would terrific.

Recipe ONLY calls for 4 slices bacon. I'm going to use 8.

More bacon is always better. I also was thinking of trying it with ham.
