Preakness-------Can She Do It ????

Girl against the boys--------can Rachel Alexandra with Calvin Borel
(Mr Excitement) in the saddle come from way outside to beat the boys ?
 
Will Calvin fly through the pack like he did on Mind That Bird ????
Will Rachel A. run away and hide like she did in Kentucky ????
Will you clean up on a long shot or the field ???????
OR---Will you go home from Baltimore broke ????????
 

Mind That Bird wins by a nose...maybe.

Mind That Bird's nose just was a little too short -----but if the Preakness had been at Derby length MTB would have won.  He was moving on her. 

The Belmont will be too long for her---I think----I would not race her in it if I were her owners.  She is much too valuable to become another Ruffian.

Another thrilling Race. I don't know which I enjoyed more...The Filly winning with the Cajun aboard, or the A L M O S T repeat of the last to (almost) First  of Mind That Bird!!!

Yes Jennie, that was a strange decision----the infield was empty-----not so in my day.  Where will the Preakness be run in the future ?    Stay right there in Ky?  It would be the easiest on the horses.  

With Pimlico gone they could put up another mall or industrial park. 

Belmont Stakes next!      Mine that Bird is a great horse, so is Pioneer.

Both the Filly and the Derby-winner are doing workouts at Churchill Downs, pending moving up to N Y for Mind that Bird and the decision as to whether she will run in the Belmont for Rachel Alexander.

 Churchill Downs has cut several days out of it's Spring meet as a result of fewer horses being available to run the daily ticket. The hassle is over Kentucky's refusal (so far) to permit Slots and other gambling at the track, which is said to bring in more money and thus, larger purses that attract more racing participants. There seems to be genuine concern for the future of racing in the Bluegrass State.

Since the banned people from bringing liquor or beer to the Preakness where the infield was referred as the Freakness because of all the crazy things people did while smashed out of their minds, attendance was down, but many infield nuts were in the clubhouse, attendance was down about 12%. The picture of last years infield and this years infield was highly misleading.
