Proud Poppa

Today my son made me the proudest poppa around. He competed in his school's spelling bee. Out of 138 second graders, He was crowned the Champion!! When he came out of the school this afternoon his feet were not touching the ground, he was on cloud #9. He won a certificate, a crisp new $5 bill, $5 gift certificate at the local ice cream stand, a big ribbon and a trophy. I will take a picture when he wakes up, we got home from school and played outside, until he finally said "Dad my feet are KILLING me"

Very nice. Although we all love our children and grandchildren very much, it is really special to us when they achieve something that is outstanding! Good for him!

You have every right to feel the pride, and sharing it with your son after his success is a really good feeling.

Congrats! And that's coming from a very poor speller. I think good spellers are born...just like great pianist, singers, etc. You either have it, or not. Poor spelling runs in my family. Yes, we can spell, after we look it up. Yes, we all made good grades & have very successful careers. But we had to really work on those spelling words each week back in the school days. My hubby, who started out in journalism, says that's why I married him. I write it; he spells it for me. I've found crossword puzzles help me stay a better speller. Enjoy your ice cream!!!

Hopefully he'll continue to perfect what sadly appears to be a dying art. To this day I remember all too well how I lost the school spelling bee (6th grade, 1975): Fr. John Tuchlinski: "Spell 'horrified'." Me: "Horrorified." Ouch. I've never misspelled a word since. They were all typos. Brad

Congrats to CajunPrince/SpellingKing! My 7th grade spelling bee ended for me on 'infallible'. How ironic is that?

With 7 Children left The word BURIED, took 4 of them out Then MAGAZINE took out the next 2 He spelled MAGAZINE correctly, and to win he had to spell MUSEUM (a word he missed on his spelling test and had been giving him problems)

Museum, ah a tough word for second graders, maybe for old folks like me. Obviously you are doing this, give him a big hug along with generous doses of love, encouragement and a big bunch of "atta boy"! Ole Rouxdog

I just went back to check the original post and see that the champ is only in 2nd grade. I am even more impressed now. I don't remember having spelling words of that caliber that young. Good for him! And the fact that he won on a word which had given him trouble before - double sweet victory!
