Does anyone but me enter these things? I don't buy the magazines, but the rules say that doesn't matter. Do you know anyone who has ever won anything through this or any similar contest?

It has been a long time since I entered, but I did this year since I got an entry form in the mail.  (Of course, I never buy anything from them.....Now it is "As Seen on TV" type stuff instead of magazines they are primarily offering.  The shipping alone makes it ridiculous to order, since Walgreen's and Wal-Mart often offer the same merchandise without the shipping added.)  I have never personally known anyone who has won, but, since they show the winners on TV (unless those are shills), someone somewhere is winning.  Of course, the odds of winning are ridiculous, just like winning the Powerball (that I also have never personally known anyone who has won.)

Friend of mine won 3rd place in the Reader's Digest contest about 15 years ago. Won whatever was the giant TV of that time period.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the winners they show on TV are not shills and everything happens pretty much as you see it.  They no longer do those doorknock prizes live (just too expensive and a logistical nightmare), but it's all very real.

I once got a letter saying I may owe Ed McMahon one million dollars.

As long as someone wins, it might as well be me. If I should win, just think of the road trips and food!!! That alone will keep me entering.

That's what I say whenever I buy a Powerball ticket !! I stopped sending in the PCH stuff a decade ago having never actually heard of a winner in any community I lived in or near.

I used to do the Lott-o in California (pick 6). We hit 4 numbers about once a year (about $100 prize) and a bunch of 3 number winners ($5) each year, so I think we about broke even out there. Powerball has not been that lucrative for us. Except for one $100 winner a couple of years ago (shared with Pov Pete) we haven't seen anything more than a $7 winner yet.

While visiting in Virginia a couple of years ago, I won five dollars in the lottery. Trouble is, I had spent six dollars on the tickets.

Since the lottery came to AR last November I have probably spent
$100 or more on the scratch off 5 dollar tickets.

I've won $20 on one ticket and none on the rest.  But I still buy one a week every Tuesday along with my 2 Powerball tickets.

Winning anything at all is like your odds of being struck by lighning -

I came very close to being struck by a real lightning thunderbolt 2 years ago so I keep going for it.

One of my customers won $60 million in the Mega Millions in California.

She had a cleaning business and I think she still owns it.

I entered the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes online. For weeks afterward I was bombarded with e-mails encouraging me to enter this or that segment of the sweepstakes. Finally I had my name taken off their list. The online version is an obnoxious come-on.
