Publix Orders UK-made Lea & Perrins

Several Roadfooders have expressed delight over the flavor of the Lea & Perrins sauce actually made in the county of Worcestershire, UK.  I’ve been ordering it from California, but since Publix stores have a British Foods section, I emailed a request that they carry this product.  Here’s the email response I received today:
 
“...the supplier for the product you requested has agreed to have it brought in on their next delivery to the U.S. The delivery is being sent via cargo ship so it will take several weeks to get here, and it should be available for you within the next couple of months.”
 
If you’re near a Publix supermarket, BOLO for it in the British aisle soon.  I’m looking forward to it.  These are 150ml flip-top bottles.

Mellow, is this different from the Lea and Perrins, I can buy at my local store?

Good job, mellow! I can find the British version at my local World Market, and it is awesome.

Chewy:  Yes, it's a different recipe and has a slightly different flavor profile.  Ingredients: Malt Vinegar (from Barley), Spirit Vinegar, Molasses, Sugar, Salt, Anchovies, Tamarind Extract, Onions, Garlic, Spice, Flavouring.  Personally, I think it's superior to the American version.  Maybe some other users can weigh in on that.  
 
Ann:  You're really lucky!  World Market here doesn't carry it at all.

I never realized they had 2 versions. Checked my cupboard and mine came from Fair Lawn, NJ. DAMN!!

Foodbme, it's very frustrating.  Lots of European products have different recipes when made & sold in America (Lea & Perrins, Kit Kat, Ovaltine, etc.), ostensibly adjusted to American tastes.  However, when I can get my hands on them, the original versions are usually better!  Talk about a rip!  (I suspect this may be a common practice for foreign products that are licensed to be made here rather than imported.) 

British supermarket giant, Tesco, just started expanding in the US. They're called "Fresh & Easy" here. Their only US stores are in the LA & Phoenix Markets. Their stores are Goofy and lack Pizzazz. Their sales are 70% below their projections. They do a lot of Private Label stuff but I'll check and see if they have the Brit's version of L&P.

Ann, I don't know if you like smoked oysters or not, but I splash them with the UK L&P for a wonderful taste treat.  Yum!

still can't find it at any of the Publix in my area.

Another product with a different recipe is Heinz cream of tomato soup. The usual one (Campbell's or Heinz) contains wheat, but the English one doesn't. Problem? It's nearly $4 per can.

skbob: Perhaps you can request it from the manager.  Publix is very good about honoring product requests.  My Publix started stocking Davidson's pasteurized shell eggs and other products on my request.
Ann:  Personally, I think you'll enjoy it.  I also sprinkle a combination of malt vinegar and L&P on most any canned fish such as sardines, etc., and it's delicious.
 
NOTEWORTHY:  I bought the 5-oz. bottle of Tabasco Spicy Worcestershire Sauce the other day, and it's excellent.  The heat level is very mild (not as hot as original Tabasco Sauce), and I think it's quite versatile.  Would make a great secret ingredient in lots of recipes.
