Put the "memory" in Memorial Day

Today many of us will be barbecuing, as well we should....but let us pause to remember the meaning of this day. Enjoy the dogs, burgers, ribs and such, but let us remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for which this day is intended. That said, have a great Memorial Day one and all!!!

Let's all remember the freedom isn't free. Those who serve, have served or will serve pay the price for us. I thank all of you.

I attended a Memorial Day ceremony here in town earlier today. It's always a hard thing.

I got a call from the new guy. He'd just attended a memorial service with his platoon. I can't imagine how hard that was...he's been home barely six months from his second tour in Iraq, and they're heading to Afghanistan at the end of summer. Coming from a military background as I do, and somehow ending up almost always dating military men, this day has never been about parties and picnics for me. Love and support to all those who gave their lives in service to our country, and to the families and friends they've left behind.
