Q by mail...i would be wary of that.
The best meat that I had ever had that was mail order was from North Country Smokehouse in NH (www.ncsmokehouse.com). The whole slab bacon was great as you can slice it to whatever thickness you want.
Their smoked meat (as in Montreal smoked meat) was very good as well. I ordered one last year for the Super Bowl & it was a big hit.
If you get it just make sure that you heat it up slowly (wrap it in foil & toss in a 225-250 oven for a couple of hours). Slice it thin & put on a onion roll or a bulkie roll with an array of toppings.
If it isnt obvoius already....a cold beer goes quite well with it.

CaryMG, we've ordered barbecue by mail from a wide variety of sources. We've had the best success with the brisket from Black's Barbecue in Lockhart, Texas. Here's their website: http://www.blacksbbq.com/. You can't order through the web, but you can by phone: 512-398-2712. What we've received has varied from more than adequate at worst, up to "as good as being there" at best - depends on the piece of meat they send. Best bet is to order a whole brisket. Know that the shipping costs are very, very high.

Edit: Just want to add that you have to heat the brisket for a long time at low temps for best results. Your house will smell like a Texas pit!

I agree that Louie Mueller is indeed the best barbecue, but I don't believe they ship, do they?

Bruce and Sue, you may be right about them not shipping. I had a look on their website and see nothing about shipping. Might be worth a phone call to find out for sure.

First off, please allow me to profoundly apologize for being a complete moron ! lol
I should have said that I'm only looking for a shouder place -- the briskey I had already decided on Kreuz Market since I've heard so much about it.
Sorry about that Bruce & Co. ! -- by the way, that Black's BBQ place looks nice !

So can anyone recommend a shoulder Q by mail place, please ?

Here 's what I ordered from Kreuz Market > http://www.kreuzmarket.com/beef.shtml -- the Beef Brisket
    The shippng's $30 for 3 pounds.
I'll send it off tomorrow and I'll probably have it by Tuesday August 19th or so.
And yes -- I so am looking forward to the pit aroma in my apartment ! lol

I'll definately let everyone know how it turned out in case anyone else wants ta do it.

I have sent both Corky's and Dinosaur BBQ to my parents in California. I think that they liked Dinosaur just a bit more due to the portion size and how it was packaged for the two of them.

WJ, You always have the right answer.

We ordered a huge spread for lunch at work from Corky's.
Overnighted in dry ice. We were all let down.
I can't bash Corky's because we all agreed that we really couldn't
judge our warmed up day old food. It may be great there.

I say just fantasize until you can do it WJ's way and go there.

I love this idea. It is impossible to get great barbecue in NYC. Sometimes you just want to sit back and experience superior barbecue without trying to create it myself (like I could, please), or leave home.

The prices for Kreutz are fantastic. I am going to put in an order, and have a nice barbecue night!!

    Good Luck, Cary!!!
