Question about ExpressJet Service?? Tue, 05/22/07 8:52 AM (permalink)

I need some info from some of you frequent flyer folks. ExpressJet has recently opened service in Louisville. Their rates are competitive with AA and Delta (our usual choices), but they have a flight from Louisville to Ontario,CA via Kansas City -WITH No Change of Planes. Flight time is an hour plus shorter than the Dallas or Atlanta connections we have had in the past, plus no running to make a hurried connection. This makes them sound pretty good.
Have any of you who fly a lot more often than we do had any experience (positive or negative) with EXPRESSJET ? We are looking at a couple of long weekend flights for Janet to visit her family a couple of times this Summer or early Fall. Any comments regarding the company would be appreciated.

    Al,

Expressjet has only been flying under its own name for a couple of months, however they are a very professionally run airline that has flown for years providing regional jet service for Delta and Continental. In fact, Expressjet used to be owned by Continental and was only sold off after 9/11 in order to raise money. The planes have fewer then 100 seats and the cabin will be small in diameter. I don't see much difference in comfort level between RJ and coach on a mainline flight but some people do. I used to be in the business and can tell you that they have a great reputation. So, the decision that you have to make is, "Can you sacrifice a little room (perception) in order to save time and a connection?"

Al, you might want to consider driving to Columbus to catch dirt-cheap flights via Skybus. A quick check shows a round-trip from Columbus to Burbank for $175.

Thanks for the tip Michael, but we used $70 in gas for the round trip to Centerburg last Saturday. That would add more to the cost than we would save...plus the 8 hour driving r/t.

In addition flying to Burbank is the cost of driving to the Ontario region. The Ontario airport is neat and easy in and easy out.

When we race in the area, we always fly into Ontario.

Janet's Mother lives very close to the Ontario Airport, and her daughter is at 29 Palms USMC Base. Airport convenience dictates using Ontario!

Janet has no problems flying in the Rapier 50 passenger versions that ExpressJet and others are using on their shorter hops, so We will probably use it this time for her Summer travels. Thanks for the tips
We have locked in a long weekend for her in August and another in September. Looks like the dogs and I will be out searching for Rib Bones again!!
