Question about G@$%^M!! Facebook
Tue, 04/12/11 9:01 PM
( permalink)
OK, when I tried to make a business page on FaceButt, it said my chosen name (Chocolate Gypsy) voilates thier terms of service! Now, I read through it numerous times to see what the hell they were talking about, and can't see anything on there to get booted. I'm not stealing the name, it's not a 'celebrity fan site', there's no foul language... Can someone explain what's going on? It would REALLY be nice if those young punks would answer the phone like adults and give me a reason why the name of my FULLY LICENSED, LEGAL BUSINESS NAME isn't good enough for their dumb website. All I can get is one of those automated responses, with NO appeal, no challenge, no way of finding out what the problem is.... Please help! Dave

I'd say they probably consider gypsy a derogatory term. Just my opinion.

try putting a 'the' in front of the name and see if the system takes it...or you could merge the two words into one and see if that is 'okay' by their 'rules' once you get it up you can modify the display name to what you want it to be and it should be okay.

Could they be talking about their #1 rule under "Facebook Pages Terms"? "Facebook Pages Terms 1. Any user may create a Page; however, only an authorized representative of the subject matter may administer the Page. Pages with names consisting solely of generic or descriptive terms will have their administrative rights removed." "Chocolate" and "Gypsy" both are descriptive terms.

Does that mean that Chocolate Soldier would be unacceptable if still in business?

I would not worry too much about facebook. In terms of marketing alot of professionals do not waste their time with them. Stick to twitter and link your tweets to a wordpress blog. If you really want to be on facebook, try chocolategypsy one word. that is what I did for my business page, combine the 2 words into one, and it is fine

wow AGMCCALL " don't worry too much about facebook " " professionals do not waste their time with them" ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Facebook is the number 1 place for free marketing. Everyone and everything has a facebook page. It will actually increase your sales. Has for me just under a year. I've gotten jobs off of it. 1/3 of my customers follow me on facebook to see where I am going to be. Along with Twitter which I use 50% of the time.

If you look at what has been happening at Facebook, you will see they are moving towards a pay site. once that happens you can kiss most of your "Friends" goodbye. By all means use it now because it is still a good place to be. I am just saying that twitter is much more effective as a strategy. I own a golf club website and over the past year my hits from mobil sources has doubled. twitter is much better for that. and within the next few years I would bet more than 50% of people will shop and surf via mobil sources especially Ipads Al
