So I did in fact spend this past Saturday taking an 8 hour round-trip visit to
Obrycki's for one last time. We go there around 3 for lunch and the place was very crowded. Can't believe they're closing their doors! When we sat down we were told they had medium, large and extra-large crabs available, but by the time the waitress returned to take our order, the XLs were gone.
We started with Oyster tidbits (nothing special), a wedge salad (fantastic) and a couple of Obrycki's Lagers (very good). We got a dozen large crabs and they were absolutely fantastic. And they were the biggest "large" crabs I've ever had. Took us nearly 2 hours to hammer and crack our way through them. Just spectacular. The fries and cole slaw were as fabulous as always. I'm going to miss Obrycki's. The truth is, blue crabs steamed in Old bay can be eaten elsewhere, and they're always great. But there's just something special about Obrycki's.
Post script: Our original plan was to stop in Philly to catch part of the Phillies/Padres game, but it was 103 degrees, and sitting in the ballpark had zero appeal, so we drove straight back. Quite a lot of driving for a pile of crabs! Still a fantastic day.
