I haven't stepped foot in a Quiznos in at least 2+ years, and I was wondering if they've improved?  I can't believe they still in business.   The main sub I liked was the roast turkey and they did away with it in favor of smoked turkey which I hate.   I'd love the hot chicken subs but, it is totally revolting to me that they use the same water to warm the chicken as they do the beef.   Not to mention I'm alergic to beef, and they should warn people that they do this.   (not to mention those for religious reasons don't eat beef).

I'm just curious do they still dunk all of the warm meats in the same nasty water throughout the day, or do they now nuke it or something more sanitary?   Have they brought back a roasted turkey (white not like pink/smoked)?

I ordered a party tray from them, verified it on Saturday and when I went to pick it up on Sunday, they were closed.  I never did get a reason as to why they weren't open.

They sent me a $10 coupon to use at the same location, which shut down a week after I got the coupon.

The food is expensive and sub par.  I've seen stores open then close.  Apparently Quiznos is not a very reputable Franchisor either.  They are constantly having to defend themselves in class action lawsuits for their business practices and mistreatment of franchisees.

I have to agree with the prevailing opinions posted so far.  I tried Quizno's ONCE.  When I was given my sandwich, my first thought was that it was not very large, considering the somewhat inflated price. As soon as I tasted it, all I could think of was, "How can something with so many ingredients have essentially no flavor?".  Once was enough.

And, like others who posted, I have observed a number of Quizno's locations going out of business in my area, while competitors thrived.  Surely we are not the only ones who decided never to return after one visit.

Quiznos gave it a go in Bayonne NJ. It closed, quickly.

Subway came with 3 locations. The closest location to my home, closed a few months ago. The other two locations are very slow.

We are fortunate to have some AWESOME Italian Deli's and at my favorite (Benanti's) I will enjoy a sandwich that has the finest, freshest ingredients, and is so large, I could easily make two (or three) sandwiches from the yield  of ingredients from one sandwich.

As far as sandwich chains go, there is one that has been here, my entire life. Blimpie. I love a good Blimpie, every so often, because it it what I grew up eating. The flagship Blimpie is in Hoboken NJ, and although it is a chain, it is kinda like "our chain" since the original owners opened the Bayonne location, shortly after the first, in Hoboken.

The Original Blimpie in Hoboken closed quite a few years ago.  It had been declining over the years (maybe after the original owners left?) and certainly didn't compare to the Italian delis in the area.  Nostalgia is one fun, but it doesn't make bad food taste good.

That is why I qualified the statement with "as far as chains go", after mentioning the praises of the Italian Deli's.

Blimpie is not as it once was, in Hoboken. It is still "there" (in spirit), but not exactly the same. However, it was at the Bayonne Blimpie Base (same location tp this day) that I discovered a fascination with food, outside of my home. As a child, it was a thrill to stand in front of the glass, watching the sandwich created, in front of my little eyes. That counter still exists in Bayonne, and I am grateful for it. It was one of the first lasting impressions that inspired me into the world of culinary arts.

Much like I love White Castle, maybe not exactly for the quality, but the fond memories, assocaited with certain foods that may not be the best, but still an enjoyable experience, every so often, in my humble opinion.

Should everyone run out and go get a Blimpie? Maybe not. But, I will, for very special reasons.

the original Blimpie is not in Hoboken, in spirit or in reality.  It close a long time ago.  Another opened years later, but it's not the original.

The original location was in the 640's on Washington Street. First at the original location, then, to the corner of the block (after a year or so), then to 110 Washington.

The current location, is 110 Washington Street. Blimpie was never closed, in Hoboken. They are certainly  still there, as always, and certainly there in spirit.  I just got off the phone with the owner, who owns both Hoboken & Bayonne Blimpie (non-franchised locations), about a report my son is doing, on (food) businesses, that were started/created in Hudson County. I got it straight from the horses mouth. He took me back to the 60s. We will be speaking a lot in the near future, since he is a fantastic and gracious man, who is excited and proud to share "The Blimpie Story", personally, with my son, for his report. That is spirit, in my book.

You are absolutely right CC.  My apologies for correcting you when I myself was wrong.   I stand corrected!

I got the closing of Blimpie confused in my old brain with the closing of Mr. Big's down the block.   Blimpie was always better than Mr. Big's, that's for sure.

Interesting that both the Hoboken Blimpie and Bayonne Blimpie are non-franchised.  A good sign indeed.

Anyway, Blimpie one up's Quiznos in my book.

                                  No problem, Tommy!!

Now, my son has an awesome source to create a very interesting and unique project. I have the cell number of the owner, and he is more than happy to not only contribute to my sons report, he is also willing to talk/listen to me, about my memories. Now, that is REAL spirit...since listening to me, can get quite exhaustive!!!! I am the first to admit it!!

During my four years as an outside sales rep I ate many good lunches at Blimpies all over Florida. What is the difference between franchised and  non-franchised?

The two particular non-franchised locations in Bayonne & Hoboken, are not "conceptual" in nature. Meaning, it would be very easy to mistake them as just a "normal" local sandwich shop. The decor is very much the same, as is was in the 70's, and I remember the digital Sprite clock (still there), from my first day of high school, in 1983, as we went for a sandwich, after class. They served large sodas in plain plastic quart-sized containers (that might be a "unique" feature not sure). They also honor their own local coupons, but do not accept "available at all participating location" type coupons, that would be generic in nature, and somewhat geared for franchises. These are the locations kept, managed, and remained part of the local community, that were not part of the developmental  franchise. They really never changed, when they grew outside of Hoboken & Bayonne. They went  from the name Blimpie Base, to just Blimpie. We still call it Blimpie Base, out of habit.  I see that the menu has expanded, but I never tried any hot sandwiches, or soup.

I do remember telling my Grandmother that it would be a GREAT idea for Blimpie to serve salads, since they had all of the lettuce, tomatoes, ect. She mentioned it to the owner, in like 1975, and SEE!!! I get no royalties!! Maybe I will have to refresh the memory of the owner!!

I have never been to a Subway, Blimpie or Quizno's.  Once in a while, if I am really lazy, I'll order a Publix sub.  They are pretty good.

I really miss the great indy subshops up in NJ and NYC.  I really like imported provalone and that's hard to find outside the big cities.  also, great Italian bread is not so easy to find outside the big cities.

                                            Quiznots rots.

They gave my perfectly toasted sandwich to someone else, tried to give me his bunrt sandwich.  Then they turned around and made him a brand new one and refused to remake mine.  After much argument they remade mine but refused to toast it.

I go to Subway.  They will correct any errors to a sandwich on the spot.

I have to admit, I'm a sandwich slut.  I don't not go to chains because their chains.  I like Quiznos well enough.  The first time I went, in Michigan, 7 years ago, I really liked it.  The next 2 years or so I would visit the one in Alabama once or twice a year, and liked it.  In the last 5 it has been so hit and miss I will now go only if my son has a hankering.

I like their Italian sub, it's the only one I like, but 9 times out of 10 it's cold by the time I eat it, 5 minutes after it's been toasted, lol.  Most of the food service workers in most of the Quiznos I've been to speak next to no English, so it's difficult to make them understand I want no dressing.  When I allow them to dress the sub, they use WAY too much, and it gets soggy.

They're overpriced.  I truly believe when I first started getting them they were larger than they are now, I think they have cut portion sizes while keeping the price.....I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

I like their red wine vinaigrette, and their horseradish sauce.  I like their pickle/pepper bar.  My son likes their soup in the bread bowls.  But no, I really don't think they've improved.  In the end, in my opinion, they've gotten worse.

Supposedly they have changed their price structure recently.  Regardless; many of the franchises have a long way to go with quality.  I never go to one unless it is packed with customers.
