The two particular non-franchised locations in Bayonne & Hoboken, are not "conceptual" in nature. Meaning, it would be very easy to mistake them as just a "normal" local sandwich shop. The decor is very much the same, as is was in the 70's, and I remember the digital Sprite clock (still there), from my first day of high school, in 1983, as we went for a sandwich, after class. They served large sodas in plain plastic quart-sized containers (that might be a "unique" feature not sure). They also honor their own local coupons, but do not accept "available at all participating location" type coupons, that would be generic in nature, and somewhat geared for franchises. These are the locations kept, managed, and remained part of the local community, that were not part of the developmental franchise. They really never changed, when they grew outside of Hoboken & Bayonne. They went from the name Blimpie Base, to just Blimpie. We still call it Blimpie Base, out of habit. I see that the menu has expanded, but I never tried any hot sandwiches, or soup.
I do remember telling my Grandmother that it would be a GREAT idea for Blimpie to serve salads, since they had all of the lettuce, tomatoes, ect. She mentioned it to the owner, in like 1975, and SEE!!! I get no royalties!! Maybe I will have to refresh the memory of the owner!!
