I am new to the concession business and new to this forum. I would like to know if anyone can give me some advice on the best weights to use for an EZ up canopy tent. Thank you. Dee

Thank you for the suggestion. We tried that last weekend and lost another one to high winds. I should tell you though, that I am in Iowa and we have had terrible weather. I might have done something wrong which may be the reason the wind blew the tent over.

Hey there, What kinds of winds are you looking at? A five gallon bucket filled with water weighs about 40 lbs. So, if that's not working, what about 2 five gallon buckets stacked one on top of the other (80 lbs)? I usually use cinder blocks, but it sounds like you're dealing with heavier winds than I have. I have used 6 inch spikes to stake ez-ups down on asphalt before, but property owners usually aren't too wild about letting me do that. One thing that didn't work for me were the sand bags that you can order on ez-up's website. They aren't large enough, and if they were, they'd be a pain in the neck to transport. I understand what you're going through, dealing with a roof that's blowing away while trying to serve a long line of customers can get kinda sporty! Sorry I'm not of more help, but please post back if you find a good solution!

Sorry to hear that. I have had used the water jugs in winds of 25 - 30 mph and they never failed. If they were much stronger than that not sure I would put my tent up though

I have used the 5 - 8 gallon water jugs with a 10 x 10 EZ canopy. The larger the canopy the more weight that is needed per leg. Ronnie

Yes I am sure the winds were stronger than 25 mph. Probably more like 50. We hadn't heard that there were going to be winds that night or we would have taken it down. It will be a hassle but I think we are going to start taking the tent down at night. Thank you all for your help. Dee

With 50 mph winds I hope you had a wind shield for the hot dogs. RJF

We set it up because the winds didn't come til the next morning. There was no word in the forecast that there would be winds. We would have taken it down had there been. We will be no matter what from now on. I don't sell hotdogs, I sell corndogs and as I was saying there were no winds while we were doing the event. Dee

I have gone thru this a many a time holding on for dear life during a wind storm. I was in West Texas last weekend and a storm came up mighty fast. There I was, holding on to the frame of my E-Z up tent. Across from me a vendor came to my rescue. I had stakes at each corner. He told me if I`d nail a stake in the middle area of the tent, tie a rope to the center frame work down to the stake, I`d have no problem. Problem solved, worked like a charm. The wind rocked the tent back and forth forcing the outer tent stakes to come out of the ground a little, but that center stake held tight. Hope this helps. BTW, I`ve lurked on this board for quite some time and have learned a lot from it. I appreciate all the help this forum gives.

Though kidding aside I recommended on another post using ABS sewage pipe (PCV pipe used for drainage that is larger pipe). Fill with sand or concrete and cap with a eye bolt to tie off. Cheaper then the EZ tent weights. Rjf

I have four 3 inch by 24 inch pipes for normal weather and during storms I break out my four 6 inch by 36 inch pipes. I have had one tent collapse on me but that was during a December over night ice storm that piled 8 inches of snow and ice on the top of the tent. The center of the tent drooped about two feet, and it bent all the frame rails but the tent never has blown over. LOL Jack
