Are you talking a Red Hot as in a hot dog, or a Red Hot as in those sausages that come individually packaged that have a vinegar kick to them? (And the Bahama Mamma being the spicier and larger version).

Here's a link to a place in Texas that carries a product called "James Red Hot Links". They're 6" long and come 5 to a pound. -pb

Hot dogs in Chicago are referred to as "red hots". Typically these hot dogs are supplied form Vienna Beef Co. You can go to viennabeef.com to mail order them.

Earl Campbells Red hot links or hot links. Both are very good and are not mushy.

They are not available in Knoxville, TN but I have found them everywhere in Houston, TX.

mmmmMmm those little pickeled sausages are great with cheese and crackers. I haven't had any recently but I used to get them in a gal jar at winn-dixie

                    Dearfolk,
We are able to buy something similar here in Athens and all over Northeast Georgia (Atlanta, probably, as well) -- McEver's Hot Links.
McEver Bros. Sausage Co. was once located in Talmo, Georgia. Their now-closed plant sits beside a back highway toward Belmont. The all-engulfing odor that it made is gone, and now most of the workforce commutes to a plant 30 or so miles away that is run by the conglomerate that bought them out.
Athens used to have a local sausage maker, too -- Bradley Provision Co. -- that made the locally-favored Mammy's Sausage (a name out of the 1940's -- or before!). The company also sold their version of hot link sausage, which was sometimes seen in bars or package stores in jars of vinegar. The ownership was adamant that their products were only sold in locally-owned markets and not to chain stores. Failure to adapt to a changing demographic put them out of business.
By the way, I have never seen McEver's Hot Links in a pickling solution in a jar in Athens, but I understand that an old bar in Winder, Georgia sells quite a few of them that they prepare in that fashion. Shall I wander over and investigate when I have time to hit their thrift stores? (I'll come equipped with antacid just in case.)
Hotly Linking To The Net, Ort. Carlton in Wurst-Comes-To-Wurst Athens, Georgia.

There is a meat processing company in my hometown that sells them. They are some of the best in my opinion. I love to cut them into wheels and then put them in a cast iron skillet in the oven until they are cooked crisp.

The company is Harvin Meats http://www.harvinmeats.com/

I'm also looking for these. I grew up in Ky and there's a product there called "Fischer's Red Hots" kind of like these http://www.riverfrontgifts.com/Productdetails.aspx/Candy/MeatSnacks/opt/product/7555/store/18/category/332/campaign/0
Instead of the label reading "snack bologna" it read "Red Hots". I found them online many years ago and ordered them. They must have changed the recipe because they were terrible. They are hot dogs and I've tried experimenting with a recipe that's ok. I've tried many of the "pickled sausage" products you find at convenience stores and most are really mushy, or taste like a slim jim. Can anyone offer suggestions of good brands to try. I've seen many on amazon.com, but I don't want to order something and find out it tastes like the convenience store ones.

Lay's meats which is based in Knoxville but went out of business is now back in business. They sell a red hot but I would not suggest you buy them. The dye they use in the casing does awful things to your system and I thought I had a bleeding ulcer until I thought the process through.

They are available only through Food City.

Good luck without a bit more information. Here in CT Hummel makes what is sold a Red Hots. Not red in color. I have also had friend bring back Red Hots from Maine. These are actually in casings that are bright red.
