    Indeed.

It's interesting to read how folks either love Boston or hate them. I never saw them live, and never saw a need to, as there's no way they could make those songs sound better than they already did.

I treasure the first album. The subsequent albums were OK, but that first one, start to finish, is just gorgeous, especially Delp's vocals and the backing harmonies. I'd say "Hitch A Ride" is my favorite song on the album.

Back when I started college (1984), each weekend I would drive from my suburban-Boston home (yes, I lived at home during college) to visit my girlfriend in Worcester at Holy Cross College. My tape of Boston's first album was always in the car, and I'd start playing it when I got on the Mass Turnpike at Newton Corner, and if there were no traffic tie-ups, that tape would get me thru the tolls in Auburn and would end somewhere on I-290 in the Auburn/Worcester area, just a minute or two from the college.

To this day, whenever I hear a song from that first album on the radio, I can immediately place myself on the Mass Pike in 1984-85 on a Friday afternoon, heading out to see my girl. And depending on which song I'm hearing, I can place myself on a very specific stretch of the Pike.

    R.I.P. Brad

    John
("Smokin' " always seemed to come on just after crossing the I-495 junction, where there was less traffic - my old '74 Mercury Montego was certainly smokin' down the highway by then)

Even though Boston was at the peak of their popularity while I was in high schoool, I was never much of a fan. I do have to say, though, I think their music has held up much better than others from the same era.

I'm sorry to hear that Brad Delp passed away.

        Great Band,

A little before my time- they hit their peak right before I entered Junior High, however they made a comeback during my Senior Year in College with the hit song "Amanda" which initiated my interest in their music.

I'm sorry to hear of the man's death, but whenever I hear "More than a Feeling", my heart starts pounding and my blood pressure starts rising when I remember being awakened at 3:00 in the morning in the apartment I shared with a roomate in college in the late '70's. Two guys lived below us and would crank the song up loud after they returned from a boozy night out. I can still remember taking a high-heeled pump out and banging the heck out of the old iron radiator in my bedroom to try get them to turn the blasted music down. I think I wrecked a couple of pair of shoes over Boston music.

I enjoyed their first couple albums.. But when they went POP like ZZ Top, I strayed away from them. Guess it was an 80's thing to make money and not care bout the tunes... Either way, sad to read about someone passing away at such a young age.

I saw them in concert at the Universal Amphitheater back around '96 or '97. Sat near the back, and it was still the loudest concert I was ever at. Great music, though----they wrote some great songs. Another good singer for that great band in the sky.

I guess he sealed his bathroom door with tape and fired up two charcoal bbq grills in there. He left a couple of suicide notes also. Maybe he enjoyed a couple of burgers on the grill before he expired. Pretty twisted imo.

Are you talking about BOSTON, or do you have them confused with another band? Boston put out 2 albums in the mid 70's, then nothing until 1986, then nothing again until 1994. Personally, I think they're the most overplayed band in history.

I loved Boston!! I grew up on their music in the 80s and almost all of my memories have a Boston soundtrack. My buddy gave my Thrid Stage in '86 and I listened to it endlessly. Saw them in '95 at Jones Beach. The best concert I've ever been to. Brad, you are missed.

Answer is already in my statement above..
As for overplayed, if you listen to classic rock, what's not overplayed for the last decade? What irks me are all these albums out there, but the bean counters only playing 'hits'.. Tons more decent tunes to listen to, but guess they're saving them for another generation.
