Very sad news. His dramatic performances were good and his comedic ones were even better. He will be missed.

I guess you could say he reinvented himself in his older years and became quite a comedy actor. I still laugh out loud at all those Police story movies. You know back when OJ was still a good guy.

From the stories I heard about OJ in his NFL days, he wasn't even a good guy back then.

My first reaction to this was"Surely you can't be serious" But i was told he was serious and not to call him Shirley. A man who remade him self in a second career and provided me with so much laughter in the "Police Squad!" movies will be missed by all of us who loved comedy.

I liked the Police Squad Movies, but AIRPLANE (and to a lessor degree the sequels) was my all-time comedy favorite. (Well, maybe tied with BLAZING SADDLES !) There were so many little background 'incidents' and script lines that alluded to other events that one had to watch closely to try to catch them all. I had read "The High and the Mighty" many times over the years, and even lasted thru the movie version (with the Duke Flying!)--A TERRIBLE MOVIE-- But when Airplane came out it brought back all the links to Allister McLains book for me !! A little thing like flying a Jet airplane, but using the sound of the droning prop plane (like the original movie used), was a very funny link for me. Nielson was a Master of the deadpan follow-thru. He will be missed in this household when the need for a lighter view is needed.

Peter Graves, Barbara Billingsley, and now Leslie Neilsen... not a good year for Airplane! fans. He must have had the fish.
