He was 83.  I remember him well.  A good man and a good comedian.

When I was young I always confused him with Larry Storch.  No idea why.

NPR calls them "Driveway Moments" ... times when you reach where you are going, but have to stay in the car (in the the driveway) to hear out what was on the radio.

In his WNBC days, I had very many driveway moments with Soupy.  He was a superb talent (and from what I could tell a super, human being.) I think the wNbc days were his apex.

            Clean (well, almost clean) humor.

            Oh, too young.

I've never been a big fan of Soupy's, but there's no denying that the man was quite talented and brought laughter to a great many people. Sorry to hear about this.

As a teenager in NY City in the mid 60's I was of course caught up in the whole Soupy thing, watching him on local TV. Although his "hit" song The Mouse was not very big nationally, it did reach #3 on local station WMCA:

I still think White Fang is cool.

I also grew up in the NYC area while Soup had his show on Ch. 5. Along with Rocky & Bullwinkle and Jonathan Winters, he contributed to my warped sense of humor. I'll always have fond memories of him. St. Peter better let him in or he's going to get a pie in the face.

Soupy Sales was a huge supporter and fan of jazz and often had big jazz names of the late 50s and early 60s on his show
