I really like this place but it is only due to being fed this stuff from an early age. To call it bbq is to lie but I could and do eat the slaw/sauce alone. Love the stuff but many hate it.

Doesn't look like any slaw I've ever seen.

We think it is awful. They brought it by a bbq contest one year and gave it out. Most, if not all the teams thought the same as us, awful and threw it in the trash.

You are right about that. And I wouldn't eat it like slaw, either. But slathered on top of a hamburger it is divine.

Surely an aquired taste. I love it, my wife hates it, oldest daughter loves it and youngest hates it. It is for sure a sauce not a slaw IMHO.

I'll be having it for lunch today as I am headed down 85 for Greenville. Henrey's or Sushi Koji for dinner tonight.

I have lived in Gastonia all of my life and at one time, the slaw was more like slaw than sauce. I really don't care for it myself, but some people think that it is wonderful. The people who own RO's have cousins across town who run Black's Barbecue and I prefer theirs over RO's big time.

Trip got cancelled for today but tommorrow is looking good for RO's. Strange that at the same time Vince's in Greenville closes but becomes the brand name in Bi-Los RO's sauce is in their counter...

Hey V960 if you can and have a chance, come on down to the restaurant and give ours a try. You can hop on 485 and be there in no time.

We serve a red bbq slaw.

Sorry Raine but Indian Trail is to Hell and gone from Gastonia. Check you guys out on my next trip down 74 but RO's will sell two more samiches tomorrow. Keep you in mind however...pineapple upside down cake looks mighty good.

Lunch today...two BBQ samiches and they were as different from ANY Q sandwich as I've ever seen. Been eating them since I was in three cornered pants and they're wondeful. Sliced roast pork w/ both sides of the bun slathered in "slaw/sauce". So differeent from what anyone thinks of there's no way to explain.

                        I love RO's.

But to I could not in good faith call them Q sandwiches.

A bit off the subject but last night I looked a the London Broil my overcooked and decided it was time ot finish off the RO slaw in the frig. Two slices of texas toast slathered w/ RO's and I was smiling.

You guys are a little too inside for me. And after seeing that prime rib on eb's website, i've decided that i won't be eating there for Christmas.

You can't get the prime rib at the restaurant. We serve it at home and at catered events.

V960, thanks for this original suggestion! Amy & I ate at R.O.'s and reviewed it for the site. We both loved it but for different reasons: I liked the slaw and went crazy over the real cherry-lemon Sun-Drop, and she really enjoyed the 'cue and toasted buns. I found out later that my sister loves the slaw and used to buy it all the time in the grocery store! (Why am I discovering this now, I wondered.) We also bought some pimento cheese to go, and it was great -- not the best I've had, but great.

emsmom, thanks to you for the alternate suggestion of Black's BBQ -- we'll try that one on our next visit! You all are so lucky living in the BBQ Belt... Chris

I'm in Myrtle Beach, but a co-worker is from Gastonia...She
always talked about this joint as the place to go in town,
and get a slawburger, just a bun and their sauce. So when
she went to visit family she brought me some of their Q and
                                  their slaw.

I thought the Q was hideous, the sauce was unique. I tried it
on the Q, and didn't like it, but I'm a vinegar guy. The slaw/sauce
is ok, but I don't have a desire to get anymore. It is a true Roadfood
joint, featured on Food Network once, and I'm sure brings back fond
memories for folks who enjoy it.

I like Ro's slaw and it is particularly good on a burger. For a while, you could buy it at Harris Teeter in Charlotte, but the last time I looked for it (about a year ago), it appeared that they no longer kept it in stock.

The one time I went to Ro's, I tried both the burger and the Q and I would agree with Captain Morgan, the Q was awful. It even looks nasty on the Roadfood home page photo and the description in ayersian's review, "the pork is finely minced, almost ground, with a tinge of smoke flavor. Its inevitable dryness begs to be complemented by the spicy slaw" certainly doesn't get my juices flowing.

I like my BBQ to be moist and have some texture. Places like Ro's that put it through an automatic chopper wind up with the fine mince and dryness that ayersian describes.

"Minced pork" doesn't strike this KC barbecue fan as real barbecue. It doesn't sound like barbecue, and in today's review photo it doesn't LOOK like barbecue. More like a bunless Maid-Rite.
