Rainy day favorites Fri, 05/18/07 9:15 AM (permalink)
They are predicting 2 to 4 inches of rain over the next 2 days here, with temps in the 40s. Cold, wet and raw.
On occasion I just love these type of days. It gives me a reson to just sit back and relax. To do absolutely a whole lot of nothing.

I can't play golf, the track is dark today, yard work is out of the question house work and laundry is done, so look out couch here I come.

These are some things I may or may not do today.

I have sparked up the the old wood cook stove.
Got bread riseing
Soaked beans yesterday for baked beans for dinner
Dried cod soaking for fish cakes, all the above before 5am
Large breakfast- Whole wheat sourdough waffles/bacon
Beans in the woodstove oven
Leave dishes in sink and head for the couch
Turn on a movie and pick up a book
Think about lunch
Have a nap
Lunch- might have it delivered if awake
Feed the stove
Check beans and head back to the couch
Another movie or two
Watch golf and read
Feed the stove and check beans
4pm or there abouts start dinner, maybe
5pm- Cocktail hour starts, not sure when it ends though
6 thirty pm.- Have dinner with Brian Williams
Prep breakfast after dinner
Feed the stove
Cocktail and back to the couch
And that's it! I plan days like this. A little slice of heven.

What are you favorite rainy day things to do?
I might add I do clean as I go sometime. My granmother use to say "a sure way for unexpected company is a messey house".
Just don't feel like company today.
Chow Jim

    Sounds idyllic to me, Jim.

Unfortunately, I had to hydroplane in to the office today. May be submarining back home. If the Wife were home tomorrow would be a day to cook a boiled beef or a yankee pot roast and find some obscure old movies. Maybe a fire in the fireplace for the cat. But instead I have to clean up the house for next week's company.

I will be sleeping in, though. Kitty may even help me with that. He's professional caliber in that.

we're only at a drizzle here in DC. But I may follow your lead tomorrow anyway Jim. Prep some food in the morning, do some reading, cocktails, dinner. It all sound good to me.
Although, typically, rainy day means laundry and cleaning and playing handy man as needed. I like your idea better.

Jim where are you? We are having a "cold front," 60's overnight, 80's during the day.

Sounds great, I would suggest old movies on TCM? You probably have more than enough food, but a pot of veg-beef soup with sourdough bread?

OK Let us all in on your secret. How does one quietly nap while fishing ,without a hook or bait at the end of your line, on a rainy day........I would think that the rain would keep you awake.

Send some of that rain to Knoxville!!!

Rainy days are some of my favorites. I like to put my TV on CNN headlines (mute), pour a good stiff drink, turn on XM to Watercolor, read a good book and have a good smoke. Dog curls up in my lap. She does not drink. Real good cheap date

Food is not my favorite on a wet day.

We could use some of that rain here as well and I'm about ready to do up a mess of beans.

Ah, that was something I did many years ago on Bantam Lake in connecticut. It was a way to get away from all the damned idiots on shore. But I never did it when it was raining.

In my house Labor Day is wear pajamas all day. So we watch TV and movies and catch up on sleep all day. The door and windows are closed. Make sure there is food in the fridge so we don't cook.

Wet days are like black outs and snowstorms...make babies. The words of that great man Grady from Sanford and Son "I'll be a clean old man when I'm a dead old man".

Yesterday I got into the car and drove 25 miles round trip for pho. Got a big batch and it kept us warm for hours on an otherwise cold wet rainy day.
