Ramar of the Jungle Thu, 10/24/13 6:08 PM (permalink)
For my birthday,  Ms OC gave me the complete set of Ramar of the Jungle, a TV show that ran 1953 - 1954. Any one remember that show?  (I was 11 - 12 at that time)  She heard me speak of it many times and was able to locate the set online.

I do, indeed, remember it. I think I'll go dig out my pith helmet.

Funny, when I talk about shows from the 1970s and 80's to my coworkers (the shows I watched growing up and that came out before they were born) they think I'm some relic from prehistoric times.

Was the main player named JON HALL ?  I watched it also. That would have been 6th and 7th grade for me.   I had read all of the Martin and Osa Johnson 'Jungle Adventure ' books by then and was eager to go 'on safari'.  Can't remember the story line of any of the RAMAR episodes, but do remember they alway had big-cats, usually lions, chasing terrified natives thru dense jungle.

That's the one.  Jon Hall played Dr Tom Reynolds (Ramar)  There were lots of shots of African wildlife, and many, many shots of Ramar, his associate and their guide Willy, walking the jungle trails, rifles in hand.

I loved the show, every Saturday morning, never missed it. No way would it be allowed on TV today!

I grew up in Philly and we got the show in the evening.  My mother would call me to dinner in the middle, and in those days there was no DVR!

I am now into the second season.  Their guide Willy has been replaced with Charlie.  He sounds Australian and forever has a parrot on his shoulder.
