Rancho de Chimayo (NM) closed

I was on the Rancho de Chimayo (located in Chimayo, NM) website this morning and it says the restaurant is closed due to a fire in July. It sounds like there was extensive damage to the building.

If this had been reported here on Roadfood before and I missed it, I apologize. To those who haven't been here before, this is one of the most beautiful, romantic settings for a restaurant imaginable and the food is fantastic. This place is easily in my all-time top 10.

According to the website, it looks like they will reopen, but there is no date, yet.

I looked back at the website this morning and it is now saying they won't reopen until April 2009. At least they are reopening!

My cousin Johnny and I take one week long trip together a year. Our trip next year will be all over the state of New Mexico. You can bet we will take our trip after this great Roadfood place has reopened, so we won't miss it.

I've been keeping track of this also BB. There was damage to the century old adobe and that took awhile to figure out. At one time they had set up a relief fund for their employees, not sure on the status of that.

Me too. Sad. They are a tradition. But I am sure they will rebuild. The website now says April. (maybe in time for the Chimayo pilgrimage on Good Friday??)

I know they had a B&B across the street. I wonder if that's open.

The website is now saying a late July reopening.  Which really stinks, since I will be going through the area in June.  A trip to New Mexico will not be the same without a stop at this wonderful place.

I feel your pain buffetbuster! I hurt also.... Being a New Mexican I consider it the finest and most definitive food experience in our state. That family's pride and culinary skill exudes from every plate! The ambience is unforgettable. I'm confident they'll open and provide the same great experience we remember.

Their website says that construction has begun....   that might mean even later than late July! This is one of my favorites too!

Looks like after a couple of delays, Rancho de Chimayo will finally be reopening on Saturday.  I have been there twice before and it counts among my very favorite Roadfood stops.
