Randy's Donuts in Los Angeles changes it's huge donut to a hockey puck

Randy's Donuts, the iconic donut shop in Los Angeles with the huge round donut on it's roof

Looked a lot different when I went there today. In honor of the Los Angeles Kings, leading the NHL Stanley Cup Finals 3-0 as of last night, they have changed the donut to a hockey puck. Here's what it looked like this morning......

Fortunately, I got there just before the line started again......

So I could get a jelly donut, a maple bar, a crumb donut and a cup of coffee.

The donuts are still made fresh and as good as they've always been.

It's always nice to stop for donuts at Randy's......and

GO KINGS!

The only time hockey and donuts should be mentioned in the same breath is in reference to Tim Horton.

True....I can date myself by the fact I saw both the Rams and Raiders play home games in the Coliseum. Nothing like that will ever happen again!

Boy, Stephen, if I'd known, I'd have met you there. My Maple Bar was as good as it gets!

As it reaches 100 degrees in June the Fat Lady finally has her hands on the microphone, mercifully to end a season that is 3 months too long.

It's great to see at least part of Los Angeles embracing hockey.  Hey Ed, with where you live, shouldn't you be a Ducks fan?

I have family in Ladera Heights, just north of Randy's - I'm sure they love that place! I also noticed that Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles is less than a stone's throw. And P.S. part of that family is involved with "working" the playoffs (she's a makeup artist for Fox/Fox Sports/NFL Network), just to brag!

Took another view of the giant puck donut when I was gassing up the car across the street at the Shell station:

    It's very impressive.

I have a friend who grew up in Fountain View. He is a Kings fan and his reasoning is that he was coming of age as a sports fan just about the time the Kings traded for Wayne Gretzky. It make sense. Really...without Gretzky ever coming to the Kings, it is possible that there is never even a franchise in Anaheim.

Cliff, I grew up and spent most of time life working and living in the LA/SFV area. Of course that made me a Dodgers/Kings fan. The only connection I had with the Ducks was working on Mighty Ducks 2 and that certainly didn't convince me to become a Ducks fan!

    Ed & TTM-
I have always been fascinated in how people choose what team to root for when there are two pro teams in your city.  No doubt geography, family history and who wins/who loses has to play a part in it.

Ed, I am very happy for you that the Kings are doing so well.  They are an easy team to root for!

For me, it was easy. My father moved here in 1952 from Brooklyn and claimed the Dodgers followed him out. And for what it's worth, I lived until I was 11 about 2 miles from Randy's Donuts!

Congrats to you and your Kings Ed!  A worthy champion.  When they fell behind to the Sharks in the first round, no doubt you have difficulty imagining this would be the outcome.

Thanks Cliff. LA does have a history of improbable sports moments and history such as Kirk Gibson's hobbling home run for the Dodgers in the '88 World Series. I'm just glad to be around for the King's moment in the sun!
