Ravinia BBQ on Chicago's North Shore

Hate to admit this, because I'm not crazy about the people who own the place, but Ravinia BBQ in Highland Park makes some great, albeit, expensive, chicken dinners. Had one last night. For $13.95, you get two large chicken breasts, which first are deep fried and then drenched in BBQ sauce (you could also have plain fried chicken or hickory). Your dinner comes with a generous helping of some of the best cottage fries around - really crisp and delicious. The dinner also comes with a very nice salad and some fresh bread. Actually, for all you get, and considering the quality, it's a pretty good deal. The chicken is the kind you end up chewing the bones of to get all the fried bits you can.

    Sound good.

    Doesn't sound like BBQ.

I agree. BBQ it's not. It's just a North Shore variation on BBQ.

For real BBQ, there's not much choice in the north suburbs. Carson's Ribs is OK, though.
