Ray Klavon passed away yesterday

Ray Klavon who owned and operated Klavon's Ice Cream Parlor in Pittsburgh's Strip District, passed away yesterday. He was only 64 yrs old. Ray was a dear friend of our family, and doted on my nieces and nephews when they came into the shop for ice cream treats.
Rick Sebak profiled Klavon's on his Strip Show program.

RIP in Peace, dear friend.

Although I can't anything official, it looks Klavon's has closed it's doors.  We tried to stop in last Thursday night and it seemed to be out of business.  The shelves looked empty and the building had a for sale sign.  What a shame!  First Jo-Jo's, then Benkovitz and now Klavon's.  The Strip has really taken a hit in the last few years.

If anyone can find something official, please let us know.

Great news! Klavon's has reopened, and even better news! The new owners will be serving Creamery Ice Cream from Penn State! I hope that Coconut Chocolate Chip will be featured, as it is my favorite! See the news at:

Your timing for posting that info was impeccable.  Very much appreciated.  We had a few moments yesterday waiting for our tour of the Frick mansion, so I checked Roadfood.  After seeing your post, we headed straight to Klavon's for dessert.  She enjoyed two scoops of Peachy Paterno, while I had one each of the PP and Bittersweet Mint, with some hot fudge on top.  Photos to follow!

Sorry I did not see this earlier.  Unfortunately, I did not take a photo of the flavors list, but all the usual suspects, like bittersweet mint, WPSU coffee break and peachy Paterno were available.  Maybe a dozen all together.
