Read German Potato Salad

http://www.senecafoods.com/ourbrands/read.shtml#readsalad A couple of weeks ago I purchased this product at Save-A-Lot Supermarket in Georgetown, OH. I was astounded at how good it was and I just stocked up on it and will be using it regularly. It is good hot or cold and really needs nothing added to it to make it better, but I guess a little fresh parsley wouldn't hurt. Has anyone here tried it or have you found other good canned versions of this product?

I like it, and always stock up whenever our local Schnuck's has it on sale (about once a month or so). Save-A-Lot hadn't carried it here before, but I will have to check to see if they have it now, and what their price is on it.

I like that too, and get it from time to time. But I have a German restaurant closer to me than the grocery store, and I can get a decent tub of their salad for 3 bucks, so that generally wins out.

For canned it is fantastic. Adding a little vinegar and black pepper sasses it up greatly!

Been checking all of the LA stores and the only Read product sold is the 3 bean salad. I now crave it!

You should talk the store manager into stocking it.

After reading this post, I found the product at my local ShopRite. It's pretty good. I have some more and I think next time I will add a little celery seed. When I make German potato salad I use my mother's recipe and it does include celery seed, so I have become accustomed to that flavor.

It is the best I have found since leaving Yonkers in 1970 where I bought it fresh at Lorenzen's Deli on Yonker Avenue.

I just noticed this at my local Shop Rite and remembered this post. It's not bad at all. I bought another can to keep on hand for a quick side. I would love to try the three bean salad but they only carry the potato salad here.

My Mom is of German heritage and always made homemade German Potato Salad. The ones I have bought around here are good but not quite as good as Mom's. I admit I added celery seed and a crumbled slice of bacon to the Reads but for a convenience item it was not bad.

Read's is owned by Seneca Foods, a lagre publicly traded company that also owns Stokeleys & Libby's plus others and also does private label. Big outfit that literally controls the canned and frozen Vegetable market
