Real Corned Beef Hash in Milwaukee? Mon, 12/13/04 5:22 PM (permalink)
Help! I can't find any real home made corned beef hash in Milwaukee. Everywhere I look I see the canned $#1X - corned beef puree and 1/8" dice potatoes.

Get by "Jake's" for some of the best corned beef you will ever find. It compares favorably with the best in New York, including "Carnegie" and "2nd Avenue Deli". I didn't look for hash there, but I sure would like to wrap my hands around one of the corned beef, pastrami or reuben sandwiches.

I eat at Jake's twice a month. I want hash, my good man. HASH.

This lack of hash is making me grumpy.

        No Problemo Yumbo!

Go directly to the Original Pancake House in Brookfield, located at 16460 W. Bluemound Road. It's the real deal made with kosher corned beef and highly recommended by my wife. I prefer my corned beef on Miller's rye at Jake's. OHP's food is top notch, so get there before 9:00am on the weekends or be prepared for a long wait. OHP gets my vote for the "Best Breakfast in Milwaukee."

An update on this Roadfooder's quest for home made corned beef hash in Milwaukee ...

This morning I went to Benji's (http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Writeup.aspx?ReviewID=2198&RefID=2167) and had their hash. I'm used to large 1/2" chunks of corned beef. Their meat was finely chopped. The whole mixture was actually kind of fluffy, with a nice crust that you can only get from a well-seasoned grill. Very good in an unexpected sort of way.

The hash was topped with two expertly poached eggs, and served with sour cream (!) and a vinegary cole slaw (!!).

          Will report more next week.

I second Benji's. Of course McBob's is no slouch. It even sounds kind of Irish.

I'm glad you went to Benji's, I would've sent you there.
