Red Cooper's grapefruit

I received my first shipment of the season today. They're a bit smaller that I expected, but the quality is unsurpassed.

Pete is a genius and a gentleman.

Here's where everyone can order those wonderful Texas Ruby Reds.

Those are some nice looking fruits on that site Bushie! With all this off season stuff in the stores around here, they're looking real tempting!

The website says to chill them, but I burned through the first one within five minutes of getting home tonight. It was great! They're right about one thing, though. I can't even imagine sprinkling sugar on these things.

OOOOH! I miss the Ruby Reds. My sister used to ship a case up here every year. I loved eating them, but now a days, with my various medications, my grapefruit intake has been curtailed!! I must say, however, there is nothing sweeter than a South Texas Ruby Red. Just peel & eat out of hand!

While they're not Ruby Reds, MomZ has two grapefruit trees off the patio in Desert Hot Springs with fruit that'll knock your eyeballs out! Hmmmm...do I want a white or a red grapefruit this morning? Just reach over and pull one off the tree! And they cannot eat the grapefruit due to their medications so we get to haul boxes of them back to Alaska!

Until I discovered Red Cooper's, I always preferred the white grapefruits from Imperial Valley. They don't generally get the respect that Ruby Reds get, but they surely are good. When I was a long haul trucker, I used to pick up loads of grapefruits around Palm Springs going to the east coast, and the dock foreman would usually sell me a box of his best for five bucks.

I'll chime in for South Texas grapefruit. Absolutely the best red grapefruit I've ever consumed.
a couple of years ago, my brother and I were in McAllen Tx on business and on the drive back, stopped at a roadside stand selling citrus. The kid working the stand couldn't speak English and in spite of my poor Spanish, bought as I said, the best red grapefruit I've ever eaten. We probably ate two bags of them by the time we got back to Ne Penna.
My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Thanks a lot Poverty Pete, lol.
