Red Lobster Floundering? Olive Garden Squeezed??

Stockholders of Darden, the parent of Olive Garden & Red Lobster are putting pressure on the company to unload them.

I don't get it.
Every Olive Garden & Red Lobster in the PHX area that I've seen has been busy with people waiting outside every night.
They are advertising both chains on TV Very heavily.
I guess it has to do with their Real Estate and other financials
Olive Garden is going thru a major revamp from the floor up.
Go figure!

Instead of jumping in haste to correct an obvious play-on-words, you might have first consulted a dictionary.

    flounder

to struggle or wallow. The whole company is just floundering around and getting nowhere. The horse floundered around, trying to get across the soggy pasture.
    flounder through something
    2. Fig. to struggle awkwardly through a difficult situation. We floundered through the performance. I don't know how we did it, but we did it. We just floundered through our presentation, hoping for a lot of questions.

You might want to grab a moist cloth to clean the egg off your face.

Since you posted your comment on a public board and didn't address "your friend Jim", your comment is open for others to respond. If you don't like it, tough patooties. BTW, just because a company isn't performing well enough to satisfy its stockholders, it doesn't mean it's foundering. In this case, floundering seems to be more accurate.

JRPfeff & I are friends and we understand each other so let it rest.
Besides, just go and stand outside a Red Lobster or Olive Garden for a week and see the hundreds of people who stand in line to get in there to buy Frozen and Boil in the Bag Stuff.
My Bride happens to like both places and YOU and I are the last people who want to challenge her likes and dislikes if we know what's good for us!
Incidentally, Red Lobster's Sales are over $2BILLION and Olive Garden is over $3 BILLION. Someone must like them!?????????????
There must be  lot of people who are not as sophisticated as you I guess.
So jman, take your pious comments some where else.

I think that people go to the Red Lobster and Olive Gardens because it's what they can afford and still get a decent meal. Neither place claims to be the Peter Luger of seafood or Italian. But here in Round Rock the lines are out the door. So if either place is foundering, I'm not seeing it.

Olive Garden has built several new locations in and around Knoxville and Red Lobster facilities are always packed.  I do not believe that restaurant sales are a issue but overhead at the home office is.  The Olive Garden new restaurants are very attractive.  I always enjoy their salad.

I'm sitting on the perch as a grouper here. I haven't been to a Red Lobster in over 20 years. I haven't been to an Olive Garden since retiring and no longer have to herd with a business traveling or lunch crowd. I didn't not like them. It is just a been there done that deal and there are just too many choices out there to explore yet. Generally my avoidance of corporate restaurants is pretty extensive as a conscious go to decision. Sometimes in traveling there are not a lot of choices. I didn't get to an Outback Steakhouse until last summer for the first time in my life. It wasn't bad either.

One criteria I have for going/not going are the lines I'm going to have to contend with. The older I get the less willing I am to stand in line waiting for something. Although I know Franklin's has some really kick-ass barbecue, I am not going to wait in a line for hours to get some. There aren't that many games of solitaire on my Iphone.

I'm an Italian who has eaten in Olive Garden and Carrabba"s. Are they great...of course not. I cook my pasta gravy for hours....But I too freeze it and use it for later meals...Frozen sauce tastes great.....I'd not put down OG for defrosting...and we love the endless salad and soup...good too!

The thing I can't stand about Red Lobster is the fact that when they serve founder they never get rid of the eyes. And quite frankly, the taste has always been sort of flat. Whenever I'm round fish at a restaurant I don't mind shelling out a good amount of money. As I always say, carp diem.

...and as I've said many times here, loving road food doesn't negate eating an ok meal at a chain now and then...it's not a culinary mortal sin!!...and yes, I've had occasion to be taken to a mom & pop Italian restaurant where the food was worse than a chain, there are good chains and bad, and oh yes, good road food and BAD!!!

Olive Garden is ok, if I stick to the soup and salad. I always found Red Lobster's food to be too salty
