Red's Steamed Cheeseburgers, State College PA

I am from New England but on the road in State College PA, and was pleasantly surprised to find a place that serves authentic steamed cheeseburgers, a la Meriden, Connecticut. Red's Steamed Cheeseburgers on North Atherton Street, north of downtown.....started by soemone who went to school in CT and discovered steamed cheeseburgers in Meriden and New Haven. Red's uses the authentic steamers made in CT. I must say, I have only been to Ted's in Meriden one time, but the burgers at Red's seem to be just as tasty. Also great fresh cut fries.

This is why I came to Roadfood.com! I went to Penn State, travel there 3 or 4 times a year (for football and baseball games, and the Arts Festival), but never heard about this place. I love steamed cheeseburgers ala Ted's and can't wait to try Red's. When did it open?

I don't know when they opened, but I have googled them and there are writeups on line about them. They are right across from Houts? general store and that's where their beef comes from daily.
