My ice maker has all the sudden quit working. I've checked, it has water going to it. Anyone here have experience with what can go wrong all the sudden? How to fix it? Thanks, MikeS.

Ours has a little metal bar that shuts it off - it got hit by something in the freezer once and stopped making ice - took us a while to figure out what the issue was.

I'm sure how they work but there is a little paddle below the unit that can get stuck from ice freezing up in the rotating joint. Look and see if that is the case and free it up. That's how I solved my problem.

When mine quit working it was one tooth of a plastic gear that emptied the hopper. I bought a replacement for the entire unit on Ebay. And I really thought it would be a reason for a new fridge.

In the middle of the night the other night my ice maker started making a god awful noise and it started the dogs barking. I got up and checked it and there was a piece of ice stuck in somewhere on the top. I pried the ice out and it then started making another noise. I pushed around on it and it finally stopped and is working fine now and making ice galore. Go figure!

When my ice maker quit I went to the Parts store and asked for a new ice maker, now you are not going to believe this, the guy behind the counter asked to see my ice maker so I got it from the car. He looked at it and confirmed that there was wear in the bushing that the arm that controls the metal shut off bar. He took the unit in the back and in 5 minutes returned and handed me the ice maker. When I asked him how much, he said no charge. Wow, I am a faithful customer now. The worn bushing was not activating the switch that tells the ice maker to keep making ice. I hope this helps, this was years ago, I gave that fridge away when we redid the kitchen.

A day after our icemaker quit - the frig and freezer went to room temperature. Turns out both contol boards died almost simultaneously. Frig was only ~ 3 years old.

Mike, mine fills up pretty often and spills over. I have to empty it and clean out the overspill. Probably a good idea anyway as ice tends to develop a old taste after a while. Paul E.
