It was not just better - it was fantastic - nowadays their pizza tastes like cardboard.

They made it just like a NY pizza pie - now it is like a bad frozen pizza.

The difference is astounding and shocking.

*shrug* it tastes pretty good to me - not at all like cardboard.

To each their own, I suppose.....

Were you born and raised in the Cincinnati area? That may be why we feel so differently about the taste and quality of their pies.

For the most part, yes, and I have not ever been to NYC

Who knows, when I first try those pies there (assuming I ever get there) I may decide that NYC pies taste like wallboard. I doubt it, but who knows? :-)

You must IMHO eat a very high quality of frozen pie to think the Mio's pies are equivalent to them

Unless there is a type of "Cincinnati Pizza" that uses cinnamon, nutmeg, and chocolate in its sauce. pb

The most important question is--How does that pizza compare with the pizza from Gary, Indiana? As we all know, pizza was invented in Gary, and the pies from that city are the standard that all pizzerias strive for.

When I said CiCi's is as bad as Cinci pizza gets I did not say it is Cinci pizza or from Cinci.

You need to read more carefully - all I said was is it as bad as any pizza you can get in Cinci.

I think I know what I say when I post.

Maybe I will choose my words a little more clearly for your benefit - mebbe not.

Believe it or not, some chains do a Cincinnati Chili pizza, on occasion. I have never tried it. I don't think it sounds very good.

OH GOOD GOOD! Don't!

We did a few years back. In a fit of regionalistic exuberance and extreme desperate hunger.

All three of us were ill afterwards.

1) confusion
The confused folk(s) remain every bit as confused now as when they posted their confused comments. Now, they can add "deluded" to the description of their overall state, despite the truth of SC's statement.

2) chili on a pizza
yep, some have referred to this variation as "sky pie" with the "sky" part referring to the 'Skyline', the chili parlor that is most probably the most popular in the area. The fact that such a pizza has been made does not then mean that pizza parlors put chocolate, nutmeg, or cinnamon into their standard pizza sauce. In fact, there is no evidence to conclude that those ingredients are found in every or even most Cincinnati style chili. That said, you will find this variation offered very rarely if at all (FAR more frequently, you see bbq sauce, ranch dressing, pesto, olive oil, or buffalo style sauce in place of traditional tomato-based pizza sauce - chili is a extreme rarity) on an actual pizzeria menu locally. More likely, one makes such a thing at home. And as such, if you can make it at home, then by all means pile on all the cinnammon, nutmeg, and/or chocolate you want, if that is to your liking.

3) good pizza in Cincinnati
Good is relative. I have found several good (imho) pizzas in Cincinnati. To say there is no good pizza in Cincinnati is to say either a) one has not looked hard enough, or b) one is far too picky, at least when it comes to pizza. I'll add that good pizza (imho) need not be of one certain style, for example, a pizza need not be NYC style in order to be good. If one places artificial/arbitrary limits on what can be "good" (such as it must be thin crust or it must be baked in a coal or wood fired oven) then one will obviously have a much harder time finding "good".

4) great pizza in Cincinnati
I personal don't think we any truly great pizza in Cincinnati. Good - yes, Great - I doubt it. We certainly are not known for our pizza, and that's OK - we are known for other things, just as many other regions are. That said, I have not had the opportunity to visit any of the much lauded "great" pizzerias of this country to make a comparison for myself. I look forward to doing so some day.

5) Cincinnati giving pizza a bad name
This is simply a foolish statement. People don't come to Cincinnati for great pizza, just as no one comes to NYC for goetta. Does NYC give goetta a bad name? No. Such silliness.

6) Cici's
I've re-read the statement several time, and again, it is clear that Cici's is being called Cincinnati pizza. Aside from being a weird statement, as there is no "cincinnati style" as far as pizza goes, Cici's is a national chain and should be compared to other national chains. I suppose the one thing we agree on here is that Cici's is not good pizza, but it should also be clear that Cici's is not a Cincinnati pizza place, rather it happens to have some locations here (just like Domino's, Papa John's, Donatos, Pizza Hut, etc etc etc.)
