Remember?

Does anybody remember a time when Jack In The Box was actually pretty decent. I remember back in the sixties and early seventies they had a burger called the Bonus Jack that I thought was OK.

Here in the east we don't have Jack in the Box. Even if we did, I don't think I could actually order anything from a fast food restaurant that's covered in "Jack Sauce"....

But I was always curious about what their food was like - same as "Bob's Big Boy" - (oh man this is not sounding the way it is intended...yeesh....) I'll just end this now....

In those days, during high school, I would wait until they had their taco sale. Three for a dollar marked down to four for a dollar. These were the first tacos I had ever had up to that time.

    Mmmm, tasty.

Ok, it's been several years since they've been around here in CO, but I've gotta confess, I thought the Ultimate Cheeseburger from JITB was about the best ff burger I've ever had. And yes, it was greasy, slimy, probably the worst thing you could eat in a healthy diet, but holy shamoley, I thought it was DA BOMB.

Only thing I thought was better was the Barn Buster from Red Barn, back in the 70's. And BigMacs and QtrPounders in the late seventies, early eighties.

It can't JUST be my imagination that they all tasted better then.

    Can it?

There was a rude rhyming nickname for that place when I was a youngun. Jack in the...

I can't even remember eating there. They had one in Northeast Philly that may or may not be a Pep Boys now.

Mornings are the only time that I stop at Jack in the Box - I'm addicted to their "Breakfast Jacks", with mayo and mustard!

I remember when one opened in Willingboro NJ while I was in Jersey back in the 70's. Having been raised around them in SoCal, I was happy to get the greasy Tacos again. As recently as last winter we stopped at one in Hesperia CA and got a bag full of the tacos at 25 cents each (coupon). I think Janet, Duffy and I chowed down about $5 worth in the next hundred miles. Love those greasy little devils, Then and Now !

It is kind of like a White Castle addiction...You know they can't be good for you, but you gotta have them !!

we have jack in the box in oregon. im from the east coast, though and there aren't(perhaps it's weren,t) any of them there, so the first time i actually had jack in the box was in hawaii on my honeymoon....
i do like the variety they offer for fast food, ( like i think, im not an expert by anymeans, the curly fries, and onion rings and jalapeno poppers etc.................. but the burgers( now, and here , where ive been in oregon) taste like mcdonalds.

I just went to their site (I go to everybody's site if I can), and they have none around here anymore. I'd rather see a Red Robin or a Culver's sprout up around here. People I knew only made fun of JITB. I never saw any in Jersey, only the one I mentioned in my other post, in Philly. And that didn't last. It was in the immediate area of an Aunt Jemima's Pancake House (that place was great! And I think it really was of the brand name, too).

Twenty years ago this summer I visited my sister in Honolulu. The JITBs there were decidedly higher-class than elsewhere. So, roy51, for me it isn't a matter of when so much as where. I always got a great lunch at reasonable cost at the JITB on Kapiolani Boulevard there. The it was off to the Beach while my sister worked. BTW, feel sorry for my sister, as she moved to Dallas a few years later. Talk about from the sublime to the ridiculous!

in Union,NJ in the early 70's,we had a JITB that was notable in that they were the only place(other than White Castle) that was open after we left Malones Tavern, usually after midnight......local students were always trying to steal the clown, most unsuccessfully as it turned out

Had my first visit to a Jack In The Box a few weeks ago near Charlotte, NC. Not many of them in these parts. Very unimpressive. Dry burger, poor toppings (really dislike brown lettuce, all four strands of it) and I had to go back to counter to ask for any type of dressing on burger as they forgot to put it on. Maybe the few eastern stores have lower quality control since they are strays in the chain, but I don't plan to visit Jack again anytime soon.
