Report from the road

Just returned from a trip to Maine. And I have to report that I have fallen in love with hot lobster rolls. They were divine!!

We sampled lobster rolls from the Maine Diner and from Red's Eats. The ones at Red's had more meat, and the al fresco dining view can't be beat, but the Maine Diner's were tops. Truly fantastic fare!!

We also sampled the lobster pie at the Maine Diner. Actually, we took advantage of their summer special: seafood chowder, lobster pie, two sides, corn biscuit, blueberry pie, and a drink--all for 24.95! So much food!!! The lobster pie was great but the lobster roll really won our hearts.

But I think we had lobster just about every way while we were there, including sauteed, baked and stuffed, ala Newburg, in boulliabaise (sp?), and even in a savory strudel. We just couldn't get enough.

On the way up, we also sampled the pizza at Genotti's in Moosic, PA. I think we could have easily eaten six slices each. Yummy!

One last Roadfood place we visited was Concord Teacakes. The scones were good, but the croissant my mom had beat them by far. I don't think I've ever had a plain croissant so good. It was perfect with their coffee.

I hope to post pictures soon.

Readjusting to the workday grind,
Meowzart

I miss my job at Yankee Lobster Co. in Boston!! I used to take home fresh lobster meat to make a roll or put on a salad when I felt too lazy to cook......rough life.

Two weeks ago, took a spin up to Kittery Point, to Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier. The lobster was AWESOME!Of course, this time of year, the lobsters are still hard-shelled, meaning they're chock full of meat. A little more difficult to crack 'em, but worth the effort. We ordered 1 3/4 lb. lobsters, and they were all we could eat, after an order of Maine Steamers. Highly recommend Chauncey Creek ( It's less than 2 hours from my Connecticut home, so I'll be back).
It's Boothbay Harbor in 2 weeks for more great Maine food. And a stop at the Maine Diner going or coming is always a must for us!

    Great photographic report, meowzart!

The Maine Diner is a favorite here, as well, and I look forward to hitting it and Moody's on my way up,
back or both next month. Thanks for the visual inspiration!!

The lobster pie has not changed! I wish I were in Maine right now as I really need to go on a lobster diet for a couple of weeks for my mental health

Yeah, the food in our last New England Trip (CT, ME, MA) was just incredible from start to finish. We became Lobster Roll junkies!!! If we lived there, we'd go broke at $15 each per lunch, but it'd be worth it!!! Our favorites were at the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport.

I'm away from my Roadfood book at the moment, but we had no problem finding Chauncey Creek with Mapquest directions. Though I remember calling them for a more specific address. You drive a few miles through what seems like it could be a dead end, but it wasn't!!! Don't miss the mussels either...delicious!!!

Meowzart, Genotti's is about five miles from my house. It's hardly the best Old Forge style pizza, but it's the most readily available. If you loved it...come back some night and try Revello's or Ghigiarelli's on Main Street. You will not be disappointed!!!!

Awesome pictures meowzart. I can't believe I missed this thread when it was new.

It's been six years last month since I was in Maine and I so much want to go back. Both the food and the people were wonderful.
