...and with that, let's get back to the discussion of this suggested board feature and/or related subject matter

Well, if the moderators or powers that be are taking suggestions, I would like to renew my request for an "ignore user" function. This is one that when enabled allows me to see only the posts of users not on the "ignore" list. I have also seen this on other boards, and the true value in it is the immediate reduction in flame wars. If there are two people who just flat out don't like one another, all one has to do is hit the "ignore" feature, and the flames cease.

I know that I can think of a number of posters here who, despite the quantity of their posts, never seem to have much to say (your lips are moving, but....). I know that there are some who would prefer to never read what I have to say. This enables that to happen very easily.

Thanks for your consideration. Now back to your regular bitching and moaning.

I admit that I would rarely think of reporting someone -- I'm not sure that my limits are the same as anyone else's unless it's patently obvious -- and even then, it's something of a crap shoot sometimes.

However, I've read some threads with morbid fascination, so let's get it right out there: I've had a National Enquirer mentality at times. I know it's wrong, but I wanna see it anyway.

What about locking a thread rather than deleting it? I've seen some threads disappear that I thought were provocative, and come back a little later to find the whole thing gone. And I've never known exactly why.

Well obviously I'm gonna have to take a stronger tack with Copperhedzkettle then I have been. She totally left me out of her post about us mods. :)

If Stephen can easily implement such a button as TJ asks for I'm all for it.

If you have a ?, feel free to e-mail me. But, like Al said, give me some time to reply. I don't live here and I live an upside down life compared to most.... I work midnights.

Forget that feature, the feature that I would like to see is how to shrink some of the pictures that are posted here. Although most are very good but they blow up the thread and I have to drag the mouse back and forth to read the thread. And to top it off my mouse is old and has a touch of artur I tise. Now thats a feature I would use. Chow Jim

Stevekoe

I TOTALLY agree, an ignore button would make a substantial dent in flaming wars.....but then there are those who just can't stand the thought of missing something........... And then go whine at other anti RF site. I still think it is a good idea.

Great comment!
MAXIMUM width of photo should be 500 pixels.
It can ruin a thread. I have probably done so myself but ran a few experiments......500 WIDTH max.
And it give us old geezers' carpotunnel a break.

I have cleaned out all the Spam-crap from this thread. Let's see if T J receives any comments "PRO or CON" about his suggestion.

Uh-OH, the Mayor's post was in bold, consider me zipped.

Pro to "report this thread" button.
Pro to "ignore" button.
Pro to "max width of photos at 500 pixels", this can be specified by RF also. Ph@t@bucket does it all the time.

Regards to all,
Copper

RE: Request for RF forum feature: email all mods 2006/06/13 12:39:46 (permalink)

Of the above suggestions, I must admit I think the photo sizing is the most desireable. I don't like having to scroll side-to-side either!

It is odd that some times I will post two photos --the same size in my image sizer--- but one will make the page go wide when posted and the other doesn't. I try to keep them small when I upload them, but the actual playback size doesn't seem to relate to the upload size. I do notice that when an upload gets to the 300 kb range (or large) I tend to get error messages quite a bit...So I resize the photos smaller 200 kb seems to work all the time for me.

TJ and I communicated about this thread and we agree to give it a chance (minus the B S ) to see if there is more input to his suggestion.

I say we conduct a quick experiement. It is the resolution that causes this, I THINK. I'm no geek here.

I will post two photos, the first is 72 resolution at 500 pixel width.

That is a relatively small file but the same width as the following post.

So far so good, no extended thread by width.
Just to check it:
Now is the time for all men to come to the aid of their country, Friends Romans and Coutrymen lend me your ear. I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The evil that men do live long after them but the good is oft interred with their bones. (Sorry if it aint verbatim, just needed a lot to post).

As you can see, no extension of width.

Here's the same photo with a 300 resolution. It is STILL 500 pixel width as was the other.

Lets see what this does.

still no increase in width.
Now watch this.
Bwa-hahahahahahhahahhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhwishIwasarichmandiggydiggy diggydiggydiggydeeonandonandon.
Photos seem to have the capacity to inhibit hyphenation. Not sure why.
Without the photos, I doubt I could have done this.
Not to worry, Mayor, I just wanted you to see, I will delete this post or the rest will be the same way, or will they?
Let's see.

Now all the posts have been affected, not sure why. Plenty of Geeks (I mean that as an endearment) on here to figure out why. Its not the file size as you can see with the two examples, its the width and pixels involved, as soon as you let me know you have seen this I will fix it back,
yers Twooley,
The Copper

PS you cannot go by width and length in inches in whatever photo program you are using, the resolution will make one appear twice the size when you post them, even iffen they are both showing to be 8"x10" according to your software

Actually, it's because there is no space in the "word" you typed, thus no way for the software of this forum to break it down. Had you typed in a hyphen, it would have put it on two lines. But computer software doesn't automatically insert hyphens to continue a word on another line.

Gotcha.....so the same is true for photos.....no hyphens. (I knew there was a geek out there ) So I could do the same by typing junk with no hyphen that can be done by posting a photo wider than 500pixels?
Copper
I'm tryin it on "Whatcha Reading" thread with no hyphens, lets see.
I PROMISE TO FIX, CHIPSTER, GOOD THREAD!

If you use Imageshack to host and post your pics, you have a choice of size you can post from them. They list several different sizes for forums and direct links.
They work fine for me and that is the only way I post my photos.
They are very easy to use, free and that way you dont use up a ton of space here.

I don't have a clue how to make a picture disapear, and therefore, I think, make the thread not so long and hard to read. Even the thread gator linked was to wide.

I've heard that they are very tender at that age, but without a lot of meat.
