Retired & moved!

Hi folks! Been a while, and I'll be off-line a bit longer too. I had some health problems and was hospitalized for a week in mid-May. This ended up with me retiring from my job after 34 years of govt. service (LOL), and now I've moved to Albuquerque, NM! If NYNM is out there, maybe she could get in touch with me!! I've missed reading all your posts, and hope all are okay. My love to Mayor Al and Janet, and the two scotties, of course. And everyone else, I miss you all!!

Do you know how to send a Private Message, (PM), to NYNM?
    If not, ask.

Best wishes for health and retirement.  I'm mentally ready to retire, just not financially.

    Ruth,
Congratulations on joining the Retirement Corps !! I hope you enjoy the new home in New Mexico. At times we really miss living on the high-desert.
We wish you continued better health and the pup's send some tail-wags for you too. Keep us posted on the NM food stops when you can.

I am retired totally and have been since last June.  I retired from Aventis Pharma about 6 years ago and then I started consulting which lasted until last June when we sold the company.

I wish I could say that I enjoy retirement but I do not.  I truly enjoyed traveling with my job which took me all over the USA.  I have hobbies but I get bored with them real soon and I find myself always looking for something else.

Hopefully for me, I hope our company starts back up again for another adventure.  I realize it is different strokes for different folks and I truly understand some of you really enjoy this part of your life but I like activity of a different sort.

    Paul,

I'm just the opposite. Even though I had a great job, I couldn't wait to retire and retired early. I just have too many things to do. Learning and travel are two of them. There is just so much to enjoy in our life spans and I have learned not to put things off. Two events recently brought that home for me. First, I got to see the Pyramids in Egypt just before all hell broke loose. Secondly, just one month before the Wallow forest fire in Arizona I got to see and camp in that once beautiful area now scarred for the rest of my lifetime. I have a bucket list I know I cannot possibly fill. But it will be fun trying.

But right now I have to get off my duff this morning and get back to doing some finish carpentry work installing hardwood baseboard and trim in my house. I'm just 27 years late replacing the cheap pine I installed.

    Davydd,
Not sure where you camped when you were out here but the White Mountain area is/was one of the most beautiful areas in the country. It's my favorite place in AZ.
Here's the latest report - "The fire in eastern Arizona has now burned 760 square mile or more than 487,000 acres since it started May 29. It's 33% contained but high winds are causing potential spreading."
For comparison, Rhode Island has 1045 Square miles of land. If this fire was in Rhode Island, 72% of the state would be gone!

We drove north from Clifton on the Coronado National Scenic Byway and camped in a national forest campground just a few miles north of Alpine. The previous night we camped in the national forest mountains southwest of Safford.

You were in God's Country! There are only about 400 switchbacks on the Coronado National Scenic Byway. You meet yourself coming & going!

Thank you all so much for all the well wishes - I still don't have anything but temp. internet access (library, office at complex), but hope to be back up to speed soon.

I am two blocks off of Route 66 (Central Ave.) in Albuquerque! As soon as I can, I'm going to explore the restaurants. Anyone know of a good green chile cheeseburger on Central Avenue, by any chance? I'm also looking for an authentic Frito Pie.

Loving the DRY heat here, btw. I didn't realize how much I hated humidity! NYNY, I will send you a PM. And I'll be back from time to time, when I can!
