Review: Ed's Restaraunt - Defuniak Springs, FL

If you happen to be driving on I-10 between Pensacola and Tallahassee and like hamburgers, Ed's Restaraunt makes a pretty compelling reason to make a pit stop and check out Defuniak Springs. Ed's cooks their burgers on a large skillet until they get a little char on the outside. These aren't the 'pink on the inside' thick burgers I normally prefer. They are thinner (but not thin) patties cooked all the way through but still juicy. The onion rings and sour cream and chive french fries you see in the pictures are outstanding as well. I think this burger is mainly about technique and basic quality ingredients. Its hard to put a finger on exactly what makes this burger great but it is one of the best I've ever had and I've had burgers all over the US. I could write more but the pictures below tell the tale better than I could. Dave

The onion rings and fries were outstanding. This was my first trip but considering how good everything was I'd be surprised if there were any real duds on the menu. I do think any roadfooders ought to check this place out if they get a chance. Dave

Dave Dave: We Scoutmasters used to hang out there while our sons were toiling away on Merit Badges at the nearby Scout Camp. My son finished as an Eagle and is now a Junior at The Citadel. He still likes to stop at Ed's and get all that you pictured in your first post plus the Strawberry shake.

Looks like the "roll up your sleeves and dive in" type of burger. Messy as hell, but OH, so good.

AAUGH! I usually just make one trip over to Defuniak each year (only 34 miles & 4 exits west of Chipley down I-10). "Next time, Gadget...next time!"
