Review Of Valley Ranch Grill & BBQ Wed, 03/7/07 5:23 PM (permalink)
Well I made it back from Houston in one piece. My wife and I flew down For a few days with our 6 month old girl Samantha. She did great on the flight down, But she screamed for the first 45 min on the flight back. Oh well we got thru it.
Anyway...the reason for this post is to inform you all about the Q joint I tried while we were there. I had done some reaserch online to find a new place to try, and I ran across a place called Valley Ranch Grill And Barbeque in N.W. Houston off highway 249 near Tomball. From the few reviews I could find It seemed to be a good place to try...some even went so far as to call it the best in Texas!
Now I have not tried nearly enough places so give it that lofty status, but it was very good! I'd say it was the best I've had in Texas so far. The interior was decorated with hundreds of boots screwed to every wall and post. They had a huge stack of mesquite logs on one wall near where the menu was posted. You made your selection told the cashier, paid, grabbed a tray and went down the line cafeteria style. They pull out whole briskets and racks of ribs and sliced off what you ordered. When I saw that whole brisket come out of the warmer, and watched them slice it for my order my mouth was watering! Then they pulled out the ribs, baby backs, and sliced off six of those for me...i couldn't wait to dig in! The guy was ready to cover it all with a ladle of bbq sauce then he asked...sauce? that was a close one...i couldn't have standed seeing those beautiful cuts of meat slathered in sauce. I told him on the side please and he grabbed a bowl and filled it with sauce.
We went with My wife's parents and a couple of her freinds. Between us, We ordered just about everything on the menu, brisket, sausage, ribs, chicken, even a hamburger, which i'm told was very good!
Everyone of us loved everything we ordered, except for the beans. There was nothing wrong with them, just not our style of beans. Even the smell of the place was intoxicating! You could smell the mesquite and the meats as you drove up to the place. When we left we noticed that the smell of mesquite had permeated our clothes. I was in heaven the rest of the day, and wished that I had ordered something to go home with. I truly wholeheartedly recommed this place. They even had a drive thru window, so you could call ahead and pick it up on the way home.
