Road Trip--Indy to Yellowstone

via Michigan, Ontario, Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana. Looking for suggestions for ALL meals--expecially lunch and dinner. We're willing to go off the main roads for good food but so far we've struck out with tour books, etc....so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I hope that you get some help on this. When we did it last summer, the best food we had was the concession food on park. Not exactly roadfood, but the meal at Old Faithful was very good. We did eat at some roadfood places in Montana and Wyoming and none was bad. On the other hand, none was good enough that I would give it a plug here.

The "Fatboy" choc covered icecream on a stick is good in car roadfood. You will find them at most c stores in the area. They are not premium like a Dove Bar, but they are good and they are cheap. You can shut the kids up for about 15 miles without breaking the bank. The c stores out there seem to be more independent than chain. Some are very good.

We actually had some good food around the park and in Jackson--also when we travelled through Iowa and Nebraska. It's all these northern states that seem to be a problem. Don't people eat up there? Anyway--if I can't come up with some food my husband's gonna cancel this trip! Help me, someone!!!!

Yes Jackson has lots of places. The places we tried were full and we settled for the Dairy Queen on the highway north of town. Did you try the review page on this site? Mountain Mike's in West Yellowstone looks interesting. I wish that I had known about it when we went. Don't let Hubby cxl the trip!!!

Also, Muzzie Feroni's Cafe in Butte MT was given some praise today in the pork tenderloin thread.

More specifically--any route from Duluth to Fargo, and then anything on I-94 to Bozeman. Central Michigan, away from the major tourism centers would also be helpful. This trip is in major jeapardy right now!

West Yellowstone's Running Bear Pancake House is a great family breakfast spot--combine that with Bullwinkles and Pete's Pasta and Pizza and we're set there. Jackson has so many choices that we can't begin to get to them all. Even the little towns of Gardiner and Cooke City have good places.......I'm having a hard time believing that all of Mn and ND are desolate!

When I was in Fargo, I went to Jim Lauermans and The Old Broadway. Both had delicious beer cheese soup. There used to be a great restaurant at the West Acres Mall called the Grainery. They too had delicious beer cheese soup and decent buffalo burgers. However I think they are no longer in business.
