Road trip-Phoenix to Boston and back again Mon, 01/3/05 1:49 PM (permalink)
We are leaving in a week for a long driving trip. We are driving from Phoenix to Boston--going through Colorado, Nebraska, and Ohio. We are returning through Dallas Texas, but haven't planned a route so any food suggestions are welcome. We are willing to fix our route based on good food choices. We've lived in Dallas before, so we have our favorites there (Sonny's before there was a franchise, and Mia's Tex Mex on Lemmon), but any other suggestions are WELCOME!

A few years ago, I did not go out of my way to stop at Archie's Wayside in Le Mars, IA. I have come to regret it. If you go through the restaurant section of this site, you will find Archies and many other places, each of which I would like to visit myself. If searching the site is too slow, buy the book. I would buy the book anyway, because you can take it with you on the trip. Have fun, it sounds like a great trip. Congratulations on your first post. Welcome to Roadfood.

I envy you. I like driving long distances, especially when I have enough time to not feel rushed, enough good CDs to play when there are no suitable radio stations to be found, and a guide to good road food. As for the latter, here are links to previous threads about great food in several cities along I-40, which you will probably be using and which may be one of the leading "roadfood" routes in the U.S.

Sadly, in Albuquerque, M&J Sanitary Tortilla Factory has closed and Rudy's, IMHO, has declined in quality.
