Roadfood Serendipity

Yesterday evening after work we ventured into downtown DC to buy some concert tickets at the 9:30 Club, and we ended up wandering towards the bright lights on U Street (actually we were searching for `public facilities' before the long subway ride home ). As we approached the Lincoln Theater and were contemplating ducking into Subway S.O. suddenly exclaimed `Hey that's Ben's Chili Bowl!!!' What a great discovery - neither of us had ever been or even knew we were close. We headed in, sat at the counter and proceeded to enjoy a chili half-smoke (me) and an order of chili fries (SO). I was delighted to fall upon a DC institution (and one of the only two listed on Roadfood!) like that and the food was great too!

Had a similar experiance---while driving out here to Oklahoma in a large truck with everything i owned in it and a car in tow---a buddy of mine who made the trip with me, and i got hungry---we didnt notice where we were but just decided to pull of at the next exit--we did and proceeded to drive around looking for someplace worth eating at---we had vowed--NO FAST FOOD! for the trip--well, we were wbout to give up and were turning around in a big parking lot to try for the next exit when out of the corner of my eye i caught sight of a sign that said---"Billy's Burgers"---Wait,i yelled---pull in there!!! That place is a Roadfood recommendation!!!" well he did and we both proceeded to enjoy our first---but not last--Oklahoma onion burger!--with fries and a chocolate shake!! Great meal! and we now had the strength to make it accross the state from Elk City to Rentiesville and my new home, thanks to serendipity---and the Roadfood gods!
