Just received another mail order food, coffee syrup from Autocrat, Inc in Lincoln, Rhode island. This is the syrup used to make coffee milk, the official state drink of Rhode island. A milk shake is coffee syrup mixed with milk and is a nice coffee flavored treat; iced coffee is the syrup mixed with ice water and is another treat. I can hardly wait to try a frappe, which is what the rest of the country calls a milk shake. my only problem is that the smallest order i could buy is 6 bottles and I have an awful lot. i did think of my friend WJ as i indulged.

Jim WJ gave us a 'door-prize' gift of a bottle of that syrup some time back. It is great on Ice Cream making 'mocha' sundaes !!! Even better on Carmel ice-cream than the chocolate !

I buy chicken and beef base from www.redibase.com. I think they have a better and richer flavor than most store-bought brands, particularly the beef. They come in low-sodium, also. It works well when small amounts of broth are needed, as I can keep in the refrigerator until needed, and the proportion is 1 tsp per cup of water.

I googled it. The original head of the company was reading "The Atlantic Monthly", read an article "The Autocrat of the Breakfast table', looked up the word, liked it and named his new company after the word.

Fascinating! So even after he looked the word up he felt it a suitable brand name for his company.

We order barbeque sauce from Dreamland in Tuscalousa. E&L Barbeque here in Jackson does great ribs, so we get them without the sauce and heat them in Dreamland. It's almost like being there.

Hello Everyone! For those of you ordering Turduckens through Cajun Grocery, be aware that you can order from the originator of the turducken..... Hebert's Specialty Meats... Just Google them. I'm sure it will save you some money besides being tastier.

Just received an order of common crackers from Vermont Country Store, a food site and store recommended in the 500 Things to Eat book by jane and Michael Stern. Mixed them with milk and a hunk of cheddar(local Tillamook instead of Vermont). It was a tasty treat though I was not overwhelmed by it. A different taste than oyster crackers though it is obvious that oyster crackers are a descendant of the common cracker. Again it is an interesting regional taste that roadfood introduced me to. And it was only ten bucks including a nice storage tin that I will reuse.

The Gourmet Butcher Block is another source for turducken at www.cajunturducken.com . They have other stuffed meats available as well. The outlet is close to where I live, and we buy their whole chicken or duck stuffed with shrimp dressing(one of several dressing choices) fairly often, and it's very good.
