Roadtrip/Roadfood Periodicals

I received my latest copy of COUNTRY DISCOVERIES today in the mail. It is a slick-paper magazine that is filled with roadtrip reports and photo's. It follows the same pattern as the AAA publications, but contains a lot more 'amatuer' writing and photo work. I find the reviews fairly accurate and consider it a valuable addition to my trip planning documents. If you are interested in other folks roadtrip experiences check out the website for the publisher at--- www.countrydiscoveries.com Just another resource for the foodie on the road!!

I used to subscribe to that, but I let it lapse about a year ago. It's a great one. Thanks for the reminder, Mr. Mayor; I'll re-up today. Almost forgot to mention another favorite of mine, Texas Highways. http://www.texashighways.com/

Al, I really like that type of magazine. I am an explorer at heart. I have driven in all 50 states and in fact I keep a map and I highlight each road I drive. I try to drive a different road each time I travel. I also mark neat stops, sights and of course restaurants along the way. It appears this magazine highlights unusual and neatg places. I will subscribe and thanks for the tip. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Of course the premier one that everyone knows is Arizona Highways, but two of the states I've inhabited have excellent choices as well: Wisconsin Trails and Vermont Life. The WI magazine is probably closer in spirit to what we're looking for on this website, but both are quality publications without a lot of "filler" to my mind.

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread in the hopes someone might find the links of interest and perhaps add some. Frankly, I have none to add myself. As a rule I'll find my own roadfood places either by driving by them or asking a local where to go. I do find the suggestions here to be valuable as well.

Knoxville has the Metro Pulse which is a weekly newspaper regarding the arts, unusual establishments and neat restaurants. I think most cities have a similar publication. I find these free newspapers very informative. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

One of our local TV stations has a program on the 6 o'clock news entitled Tennessee Traveler that highlights out of the way places to see and places to eat.
