Rouxdog's 4 Corners Tour Spring 2007-Roughing it!!

The "Tuba Cafe" is definitely no more. The site where it once stood has been cleared completely, down to dirt smooth as a puppy's belly. I was told that a strip mall will be built there soon. Thanks to each of you who offered suggestions for our trip and Al to you for sending the travel book on "The Four Corners Area". We had a terrific trip exceeding our expectations.

I have very fond memories of the "Navajo Taco" they served at the Tuba City Truck Stop. I think that they have been closed for 5 years or more.

    Fellow dog,

I expected someone to ask for a full report. Dreaded doing the report for fear you would't understand and theres a good chance you won't! But I owe you my friends, here goes. Remember my wife didn't have any interest participating in this adventure to Navajo and Hopi land. Thats OK, so my old traveling buddy and I put the trip together. We're a couple independent folks, proudly self sustaining, think we can cook, and thats where our plans took a turn....... In 5 days of moving about quickly, we only had ONE meal in a restaurant. That was in Tuba City at the Hogan Restaurant (don't order the biscuits and sausage gravy) adjoining the Quality Inn where we spent the night. The "hot breakfast" was complimentary. We also enjoyed Navajo Tacos at the 4 Corners monument one noon. The other noon meals were from the tailgate, sitting comfortably in the lawn chairs I brought along. We enjoyed wine, cheeses, sausages, ham and cheese sandwiches, sardines and crackers, fruit etc. The balance of meals we prepared from provisions packed in my pickup! We enjoyed cigars each afternoon along with a little Scotch off the tailgate. Then we prepared meals off our grill, steak, shrimp,or chicken, all from our big ice chest. We had fresh salads as well as fresh vegetables. We also prepared dinner inside the motel room. It's truly amazing what you are able to prepare in an electric skillet! Buzz and I are contemplating writing a book, "preparing gourmet meals in your motel room".
Well, there's my report, sure hope I don't get booted from Roadfood.

Sounds like you had an exraordinary bit of Roadfood! It's the experience that is most important. I thought I would eat at more restaurants during my trip to Arkansas, but was not disapointed because I did not.

I had a great time, saw some friends and experienced another part of this great country, just as you did. That was the key to a great trip. Sharing the experience with others is fun, and a bonus in my book.

Look for me this summer, Rouxdog, I will be heading up your way for a long weekend, probably late June.

D'dog, we're reading off the same page. Google the Hatch Chile Fest then you'll know as much as I know.
Great idea to invite our Roadfood friends. If you wish, I'm up for some recon work in June. Thats important so we may plan a succesful assault on the CHILE FEST!

    Rouxdog,
Thats the real Roadfood Spirit!! Passing along the information is a very nice thing for you to do. Thanks. We hope to use I-10 for our next run to SoCal...in which case a side-ride would be in order when we hit Demming!

I told you it would help!! I really am glad to see it making the rounds. I have a couple of Guides to the Utah National Parks on sale now on ebay. I think the price of gas is affecting a lot of potential travelers decisions about long-trip vacations this year.

Foodbme, pleased you're finding the info helpful. We sure did. I'd prefer you find someone else to pass it along to rather than returning to me.
Al I think you are right, folks seem to be planning shorter distance roadtrips.
