Roy Rogers fried chicken

I have seen posts and mentions of KFC, Lee's Famous Recipe chicken, and Popeyes, but I have not seen any mentions of the great Roy Rogers chain. (web site: http://www.royrogersrestaurants.com/)

Roy Rogers has a nice variety of items on their menu from sandwiches to sides to shakes, but I always went there for the delicious fried chicken. For fast food, that chicken hit the spot for me! Delicious, crispy skin, perfect every time I'd order. The fries are ok - nothing spectacular there - it's the chicken you want! I'd rather eat Roy Rogers chicken than KFC any day of the week.

Unfortunately, several locations have closed down over the years; the chain currently operates throughout nine states in the mid-Atlantic region.

If you've never been to Roy's and are in the need of a fried chicken fix, I suggest you go sometime!

OH MY-- I haven't had ROY ROGERS chicken since I moved out here to hoosierville--
I used to work in Garden State Plaza (MACY's in Paramus,NJ) and there was a RR there in the mall.. We used to go there for lunch for the chicken (and rockin biscuits) and also for their biscuits in the morning nothing like a warm fresh RR biscuit with a little butter and honey..MAN...... HMMMMMM

We also used to go to RR after the school dances when I was in 7th and 8th grade in Dumont,NJ
I mentioned them to my husband (born and bread in Indiana) he'd never heard of them.. I felt so sorry for him.. haha
Where are they still open?? Just wondering- Incase I ever make it to one again - for memories sake....

AFAIK there is still a location near Cincinnati on I-275 Exit 63A (OH 32 west to Newtown) near Eastgate Mall. It is mentioned on the blue restaurant sign along the interstate.

I agree. I used to eat at the one in Piscataway NJ. A KFC was nearby and I would eat at RR for fried chicken everytime over KFC.

I just stopped by the last free standing Roy Rogers in NJ (the one near Toms River, on rt 9 in Beachwood). Yesterday I took out the "big kids" meal, 2 drumsticks , fries , and soda for $3.99.
However, I was very disappointed with their fried chicken this time. IMO, they changed the batter; it's real thick batter, and tasted like bad supermarket fried chicken to me. (a few months or so ago, it was just fine). Something was way off this time.

p.s. on the bright side , they are back to using the "real" roast beef. (yum) And I still love their biscuits

I occasionally stop at the Molly Pitcher service plaza on the Jersey Pike which has a Roy Rogers.I like the fried chicken if it hasn't been sitting under the hotlamp too long.It's also kind of expensive at over 5 bucks for 3 pieces,no sides.Prices are probably better off the pike,but I never see Roy Rogers anywhere else.
