Rudy's BBQ in Georgetown, TX

A chain place, but good BBQ beef. Located attached to a gas station. Inside is a metal trough that I'm used to using after a few beers, but they insist you wash your hands there. A long tin chest holds bottles of beer and soft drinks immersed in sparkling ice. Tell them you're a newby and they will cut samples of everything so you can decide. Order at the counter, watch them cut your meat on the brisket cam, then retreat to picnic tables either indoors or outside. Large groups can really spread out and have fun here. Recommended: wet brisket, dry brisket, smoked turkey (gasp) and a cream soda or root beer. Yum, and fun

You may have visited the one in Round Rock, right on I-35 between Georgetown and Austin. Just a few miles from my house.

There's two Rudy's in Albuquerque as well -- I miss them terribly. Good, unpretentious Texas-style barbecue.

I have been to three Rudy's in central TX now and they were all great. Also recommend the New Braunfels Smokehouse. Very good...

Rudy's is good--wish we had them in Houston. My favorites are the pork loin and the creamed corn.

I just came across this browsing the q forum. I live in Georgetown so I have to wonder, with all the great bbq places in central Texas why any reasonably sane person would want to eat at Rudy's. Their catchy slogan purveying "the Worst BBQ in Texas" is not a slogan it is the worst in Texas. If you're passing thru you probably don't know any better. I would rather take an ass whuppin than eat at Rudy's.

The Rudy's in houston is solid. Had the brisket with potato salad, beans, and banana pudding for dessert. The sauce is spicy and very good.

We have a Rudy's here in Corpus Christi...I mean it's okay but it doesn't compare to "country" BBQ...Tried the one down near Brownsville....and it was not all that great...

Rudy's is o.k. for a chain BBQ joint. In fact, it's better than the average Dickey's. That said, they are far superior to any chain fast food joint and not that much more expensive. Consistency is the key to 'Cue and that's hard to maintain with inexperienced employees and management hired far more for their financial than food skills. Whether in Texas, Eastern Carolina, Memphis, or wherever it's almost always better to go to an "independent" whose premises reflect a long tenure.
