    Corvette Guy,
There are few secrets in the World of Hot Dogs guarded as jealously as the special relish at Rutt's Hut, Clifton, New Jersey.

While some frankfurter emporiums across the length and breadth of this country make a big fuss about not divulging which type of dog they sell, trying to establish and foist a cryptic cachet, 99% of the time there really isn't much to it. They're using an easily available dog. In other words, while they're saying they sell a special frank, it's really just Frank Morgan (The Wizard of Oz) behind the curtain.

However, in the the case of Rutt's relish, the touted topping is truly one of those gloriously genuine secrets...the sort of culinary asterisk that makes hot dog lore and legend so very fascinating.

It is, I would venture to say in all certainty, more elusive than even the Texas Wiener Chili Sauce served at the various establishments selling said commodity in New Jersey (primarily Bergen & Passaic Counties) and at similarly inclined venues in the Hudson Valley, N.Y., and in portions of Pennsylvania.

I doubt that even Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre or Bogey could wrest the formula from its owners.

I figure thaT you can"t keep the
secret with smart guys like CSI
        around.
I know it is not much pickles.
I think some carots and corn.
but not sure what is used as the base.
They can send a rocket into space,
        (almost) they can find out.

          Hello all ,

Screenbear is correct , this secret recipe is guarded very closely . In all the years you would've thought that the recipe would have sneaked out.
Rutts was on our Hot Dog Tour last year and when asked about what was in the relish , the counter man just smiled .

Good luck with all your CSI stuff George and let us know when you find out .
